1 | 4 Fuelling local innovation A new facility in Åndalsnes is set to ignite innovation, create connections, and inspire growth throughout a small Norwegian community. Åndalsnes, known as “the mountaineering capital,” is a tiny settlement in Møre and Romsdal, Norway. Nestled between fjords and steep mountains, Åndalsnes offers major natural attractions and outdoor activities, making it a popular destination among adventurous tourists. Although the population of the town is just shy of 2,000 inhabitants, Åndalsnes is known for its thriving tourism industry but is also a hub for various other industries such as plastic, furniture, mechanics, and textiles. To improve competitiveness of businesses in the region and to further develop and strengthen the industry in Åndalsnes, several local companies – such as PartnerPlast, AAK Safety, Nordveggen and Romsdal Innovation – came together and initiated the building of an innovation center, with support from the state-owned enterprise Siva. The innovation center will be located next to PartnerPlast’s newly built 4,700 sqm production facility, and will be an arena where local companies can meet to share experiences and work together to enhance local innovation. - The innovation center will connect local companies with research and academic environments, enabling collaboration and knowledge-sharing across businesses and industries to foster activity and projects in the region. Entrepreneurs and companies will be offered the support and expertise needed in development processes, and when establishing new businesses says Managing Director of PartnerPlast and Board Member of Romsdal Innovation, Tom Samuelsen.

Facilitate collaboration and boost innovation

When planning the innovation center, the project group spent time researching the best technology available on the market. Cyviz was highlighted as a possible solution vendor and the project group visited Cyviz’ main office in Stavanger, Norway to meet with the design team and discuss the best solution for their needs. The Cyviz design team proposed to build an auditorium and a collaboration room for multipurpose use to accommodate meetings, presentations, remote collaboration, visualization of simula-tions, and virtual reality sessions. A decisive factor when choosing supplier, was Cyviz’ long-time experience from building innova-tion centers with extensive requirements for global organizations.

- We wanted to make use of the best techno-logy available in the market and demonstrate how state-of-the-art solutions can help facilitate collaboration and boost innova-tion. The environment, the circular economy and digitalization are increasingly affecting the way we work. It was important that the solution managed to operationalize this. We considered Cyviz to have the most innovative solution that would best meet our needs says Samuelsen.

A multipurpose design

The ideal innovation center is designed to drive disruption. In Åndalsnes, Cyviz has helped design solutions that connect people and strengthens communication and colla-boration, both in-person and remotely. The technology design allows for multipurpose use of the spaces, as it will serve several companies at the center, with different needs.

- The video conferencing system will be especially valuable to us, as PartnerPlast communicates with customers and partners all over the world. We will also use VR-techn-ology to create user and installation manuals for some of our products. The auditorium and the collaboration room will be used for training both with customers and employees says Samuelsen.

Robust, stable and user friendly

The user experience is made more enjoya-ble through a consistent and easy-to-use interface, which in turn fuels innovation-cen-tric initiatives. Standardized systems built on common IT principles and software, will help the users of the innovation center adopt the Cyviz solution more easily. It also ensures the systems are always up to date, with minimal deployment time. The solution enhances team efficiency and productivity, and its inno-vative design ensures it will remain operatio-nal for many years ahead.

- The solution is robust, stable, and user friendly. It is intuitive and it is easy to get started. The system has a lot of possibilities in terms of how, when, and what data we can share. The support from Cyviz has been exceptional, from the initial talks to finished installation says Samuelsen.

About the innovation center

The innovation center is housed over 900 sqm and

has room for multiple tentants. The auditorium has

36 seats, and the Virtual Reality room offers 4 VR

stations and 1 Augmented Reality station.

There is also a founder room with space for

startups.

To cater for the many different stakeholders and their needs, one of the main facilities is the Cyviz designed auditorium with room for 30 participants. The multipurpose room is equipped with a Cyviz display solution consisting of two projectors that can visualize Virtual Reality (VR) applications with high resolution in one seamless large image. It will among other things be used for research on tunnel safety. The VR computer content can be displayed in the auditorium, as well as being shared to other locations using video.

The adjacent collaboration room serves as a more intimate space, suitable for smaller audiences. The ability to have multiple rooms and spaces to accommodate the different innovation related activities, will in turn fuel a dynamic and engaging collaborative environment.

To manage and support the Cyviz solutions and to ensure uptime, a server application was deployed. The Cyviz Easy Server allows for remote management, support, diagno-sing and upgrading of all Cyviz controlled systems. It improves the user experience and the confidence in the system working as expected while reducing resources spent on management and support.

Both spaces are equipped with video con-ferencing and unified communication inte-gration that allows for video calls to any platform. The room touch controller allows users to dial any remote participant, inter-nal or external, into the meeting and bring the team in the room directly in touch with resources outside of the physical location.

Users can easily manage all room capabilities with the Cyviz Easy Controller software, a standardized, configurable and upgradea-ble control system which runs on dedicated Cyviz Touch Controllers. In addition to using a touch panel, Cyviz solutions can also be controlled from portable devices like tablets and laptops. With a curated set of options and intuitive technology, the Cyviz Touch Controller interface is a user-friendly solution for all Cyviz collaboration rooms. It offers a predictable user experience across a multitude of solutions, and allows users of any Cyviz Solution to:

• With many different companies working in the center, it is imperative that the solution is intuitive, easy to get started, ensuring that all users effortlessly can initiate and conduct any sort of meeting or presentation.

• Remote collaborators can be dialed in from their respective locations and participate in core processes and developments.

• Content sharing wirelessly or via cable, to accommodate an intuitive way of sharing different sources of content.
