Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of

the end of World War II with our Defence Students. Well done, Kate in 8S, for this incredible

piece representing such an important day in our national history.

Dear parents and members of the Carranballac community,

We are all looking forward to the time when we can welcome our students back through the school gate. We are very hopeful that the education minister, through our state government, will allow the return to on site learning. However, as with all issues regarding this pandemic, we are mandated to follow the directives of the Chief Health Officer and of course, we will fulfil whatever arrangements we are required of us. I continue to take great pride in the quality of education being providing for our students during these challenging times.

Thank you to those families who have shared some of the video clips and other digital evidence of student learning from home and a variety of your family activities. Please continue to share these clips with us as these keep us connected and remind us of the strength of our great community.

You may have seen evidence of ‘Spoonville’ around

our area. In fact, Spoonville is an international iso phenomenon. We received an anonymous letter at Boardwalk earlier in the week, inviting our school community to contribute to ‘Rockville’. This letter was accompanied by several hand painted rocks that had elaborate faces and some embellishments. Notification of ‘Rockville’ has been put onto

Compass and our collection at Boardwalk is rapidly growing. We would love members of your family to add to our rock family and we invite you to start and contribute to a Rockville at Jamieson Way. Waterproof paint is probably best, nothing a dog can destroy and nothing added that can blow away and pollute our environment please.

Year 3 students have been learning about Information Reports. They were taught to research for information and write a report on an animal of their choice. Well done Lucy and Jay from 3A. Thank you Ms Ralston for sending us this great student work!!

Firstly, the music department would like to thank students and parents for all of your hard work this term. It has been a very challenging time for some of you to complete online work from your class room teacher, specialist teachers as well as staying up to date with internet technology, but it has been a fantastic effort by everyone.

Remote learning has been a steep learning curve in term 3 for the music team. Not only did we still have to offer an essential viable curriculum, we also had to:

• Create music lesson plans which don’t involve instruments

• Get accustomed to weekly web calls to check in with students,

• Record instructional videos for lessons

• Spend many hours assessing online work and personally responding to student emails.

So far in term 3, primary students have: sung and danced to popular children’s songs, created chants, composed voice pattern and body percussion pieces, clapped in time with an orchestra and played body percussion to popular songs. We have had a lot of positive feedback from parents for the fun and engaging activities the children have participated in. We still have a lot of exciting activities to finish the term with which involves singing,

dancing, chanting, stomping and creating music.

There is not long to go now as the school holidays are just around the corner and we are on the home stretch in term 3. Hang in there and once again thank you for your commitment in completing your music work.

Thank You

Warren Grima, Primary Music Specialist, Boardwalk

MY CAREER INSIGHTS My Career Insights is a program aimed at helping students to better understand their strengths and interests, to inform their subject selections for senior secondary school and beyond. It is available to all Year 9 students in (or equivalent in specialist schools) in Victorian government schools. My Career Insights will be delivered online to students whilst flexible and remote learning is in place. Program Overview My Career Insights has two components:

• an online assessment undertaken by each student, using the Morrisby Online tool, to explore their preferences, abilities and strengths

• a follow-up interview with an external career consultant trained in Morrisby Online to explain the results.

The results generated for each student include a range of suggested careers and pathways based on the student’s strengths, interests and preferences. Online Delivery Schools will oversee the online delivery of the program to students, with support from the Career Education Association of Victoria (CEAV), which has been contracted by the Department of Education and Training to work with schools to deliver the program. Schools will support students to complete the online assessment at home by:

• Providing each student with step-by-step instructions, set out in the Morrisby@Home: Student Information Kit developed by the CEAV.

• Schools will then contact each student to organise a follow-up online interview between the student and an external career consultant trained in Morrisby Online to discuss the results, using the Department’s preferred platform webex.

Supporting Your Child You can support your child to complete the program at home by ensuring that they have a quiet space where they can complete the online assessment. Your child will complete the assessment independently, following the step-by-step instructions set out in the Morrisby@Home: Student Information Kit. The assessment takes up to two hours to complete. It can be completed in one session or broken up into two or three sessions. You may also wish to attend the follow-up online interview with your child. Online Safety It is important that during this time of remote and flexible learning we maintain safe and responsible use of information and communication technologies. Your school is able to provide on request resources on the safe use of online platforms and the internet in a remote learning environment. Parental Consent Your consent is required for your child to participate in the program. Your child’s school will provide you with the Parental Consent Form for you to sign and return to the school. If you have already signed and returned this form, you do not need to complete the form again. Login for Life Once your child has completed the program, they will be given a login-for-life to Morrisby Online, which means that they can keep re-visiting the results generated by the online assessments as they continue to explore career and pathway options throughout their senior secondary schooling and beyond. Questions If you have any questions or would like any further information on the above, please speak to your school’s career practitioner.

Year 4 Biological ScienceThis term the students have been learning about biology and about being a biologist. They have been looking at how living things (plants and animals) need each other as well as the environment to survive. As part of their learning they conducted a field study in their very own back yard. The students chose an area of their backyard as a sample plot and studies the living things they observed. The results speak for themselves! The students had a fabulous time being a biologist and reflected that they would like to be one when they grow up!

Green Gang members have been working with Zoos Victoria on their Love Your Locals project, where they got to talk to zoo keepers and discuss how the zoo is working towards moving local animals off the critically endangered list. As part of this program our students named two animals who currently live at Werribee Open Range Zoo and are vital in the Fighting for Survival.

We would like to introduce Peaches, the Orange-Bellied Parrot and Oscar, the Eastern Barred Bandicoot.
