A REFLECTION FROM COLLEGE PRINCIPAL, MERRIDY PATTERSON, ON THE EVENTS OF THE LAST FORTNIGHT AT CARRANBALLAC P-9 COLLEGE.

Dear families,

Thank you for supporting your children and our school staff this past fortnight and your patience with remote learning. It was great to hear that students were engaging with their lessons and some of the other activities provided, such as meeting for lunch together on Webex, specialist activities and a presentation by an elite athlete.

We were able to hold our School Council meeting remotely last Tuesday evening. A few of the agenda items discussed were:• Responses to our Languages Survey• Our updated Homework Policies which are

available on our website• Student attendance• Attitudes to School Survey• Student Scholarships• Fundraising events• Reports

A reminder that there were several exposure sites in the Point Cook area. Each family should regularly check the list of public exposure sites in Victoria (where a person with COVID-19 has attended), and if anyone in the family has attended a site at the times listed, follow the instructions given and not return to school until it is safe to do so.

If you, your child, or a family member develops symptoms of COVID-19, you should get tested at a COVID-19 testing facility and stay home.

Please take care and have a safe long weekend.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Year 7-9 Physical Education and Health teacher. As a new member of staff at Carranballac P-9 College I am very excited to be given the opportunity to work with such a key year group, about whom I have heard great things. I look forward to getting to know the year group over the coming weeks and to helping your son or daughter to achieve great things.

I hope to meet you all very soon.

Kind regards

Jack Binns

CCaarrrraannbbaallllaacc CCoolllleeggee SSppoorrtt UUppddaattee HHoobbssoonnss BBaayy DDiivviissiioonn YYeeaarr 99 BBaaddmmiinnttoonn The year 9 students have been enthusiastically practicing their badminton throughout the term with Ms O’Brien at Boardwalk and Mr Todevski at Jamieson Way. They participated in the Hobsons Bay Division competition held on Tuesday 18 May, at the Altona Badminton Centre. We had quite number of teams entered: 1 x BW Boys Team, 1 x BW Girls Team, 1 x JW Boys Team and 1 x JW Girls Team. All students had lots of fun on the day competing in singles and doubles matches. The JW Boys team came equal 2nd with a win on the day, so well done to them. The students were all excellent representatives of the school and showed great sportsmanship, they also assisted with scoring some of the matches throughout the day.

YYeeaarr 99 SSoocccceerr Mr Lucas reported that the boys put in a gutsy effort playing two Year 10 teams and one Year 9 team. They performed well to score a total of 8 goals during their three matches. They even had to play one game back-to-back as the event was running behind. Despite all the hurdles everybody worked hard as a team and with minimal training sessions beforehand for preparation. Spirits were high, and it was an enjoyable day for everyone involved. They missed qualifying for the final by 1 goal. A tremendous effort overall. HHoobbssoonnss BBaayy DDiivviissiioonn PPrriimmaarryy CCrroossss CCoouunnttrryy CCaarrnniivvaall Mr Binns was very impressed by the performance of all the Carranballac P-9 College primary students who participated in their Division Cross Country event held at Presidents Park in Wyndham Vale. Congratulations to Emmie who came 1st in her age category. Qualifiers for WMR Cross Country Championships being held at Brimbank Park on the 17 June will be notified in due course. Results included the following: Emmie 1st 11 Year girls, Macy 15th 9/10 age group, Georgia 22nd 11 Year girls, Ryker 26th 11 boys, Emma 27th 9/10 girls and Alex 30th 11 age boys’ group.

HHoobbssoonnss BBaayy DDiivviissiioonn YYeeaarr 77 GGiirrllss NNeettbbaallll The girls did an awesome job! They worked extremely well as a team, despite some of them not meeting each other until the day of the competition due to being at different college campuses. All the girls approached each game with a positive attitude and motivated each other to achieve their best. The girls came 3rd out of the eight teams and won three out of their five games. Unfortunately, they didn’t make the finals, but they should be commended on how well they participated on the day. Well done Year 7girls! Thank you to Ms Kaye for training this team and coaching them during this competition.

HHoobbssoonnss BBaayy DDiivviissiioonn BBooyyss NNeettbbaallll It was an exciting day of competition for the Carranballac P-9 College Year 8 Boys Netball team, who played two very close games in their division competition held on 27 May at the Altona Sports Stadium. Game (1): lost 17 -16 and Game (2) lost 18 -12. Although the boys were a bit dejected after their matches, everyone knew they had tried their hardest against some challenging opposing teams.

CCaarrrraannbbaallllaacc PP--99 CCoolllleeggee YYeeaarr 33--66 AAtthhlleettiiccss CCaarrnniivvaallss What a fantastic two days of fun all the Year 3-6 students experienced at the Newport Park Athletics track on 18 and 19 May. We were very lucky, as the weather was nice and sunny on both days. Thank you to all the parents who assisted with the results recording of specific events and other duties throughout each carnival. Community support is valuable and essential for ensuring these hugely logistical events all run smoothly. The staff were really impressed by the high level of student participation and the enthusiastic camaraderie displayed by all the House Teams.
