WELDING In our welding lab, safety is our number one priority! In preparing for your welding course, you must provide leather welding gloves, protective eyewear, and a welding helmet. Welding jackets should also be worn throughout the course, which are provided. Please also wear appropriate clothing to class every night to ensure your safety. Proper clothing includes long pants or jeans with no holes or frays, a long sleeve shirt, and work boots- please, no tennis shoes.

Shielded Metal Arc Certification (VTE714)This 40 hour course will provide training forexperienced and trained welders in preparingfor certification testing in the shielded metalarc welding process. Test certification will beperformed on 3/8 inch steel plate. You will prepare to test in two positions: vertical up andoverhead passes. You will also practice weldingon test plates to prepare for the final testing.All certification testing will be performed by aCertified Welding Inspector under AmericanWelding Society (AWS) welding specificationsand procedures.

MIG/TIG Welding (VTE748)This 40 hour intermediate course is for the welder with basic welding experience. You will train inwelding safety, gas metal arc welding (GMAW-MIG), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW-TIG) processes. The course includes metal arctransfers of short-circuiting, globular, spray arc,and power mode. Also included is instructionin how various shielding gases affect gas metalarc and gas tungsten arc welding. Hands-onexperience will be dedicated to welding onbasic carbon steel using edge, corner, lap, andfillet welds in all positions. Welding is limited to

regular thin, flat material and does not includethick plate, pipe, or other irregular shapes.

Water and Wastewater Chemical Feed Applications and Process Control (VTE943)Effective chemical application is essential to thetreatment of water and wastewater. Participantswill start with a review of units, constants, periodictable, and basic math formulas used to calculatedosages for various types of chemical feedapplications. Then commonly used chemicalsand products will be broken down into groupssuch as oxidizers, sulfur compounds, metalsalts, and polymers. Treatment goals, processmonitoring, and process control techniques inaddition to other “need to know” information will be discussed for the more commonly usedproducts within each group.
