Career Cruising Q & A

CD Practitioner Work Group

Post-Secondary Plans

1. Is it possible for the personal information to crosswalk itself between the “Personal Profile” section and the “Personal Information” under the post-secondary plan area?

Page 3: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• Not possible – the “Personal Info” section under the post-secondary plan is for students to enter a fixed future address that they can be contacted at after graduation (this whole section was originally designed for this functionality). The Personal Profile section is the address that will be used during the EDP print out or the Resume export. These two could potentially be different addresses. Once upon a time, there was supposed to be a way to view this Post Secondary address. I have placed that on the suggestion list so that it can be reviewed at a later date.

2. What is the purpose of the personal information section in the post-secondary area when it is invisible on the EDP and inaccessible for data purposes (CTEIS reporting)?

Post-Secondary Plans

3. Is it possible to list “Military” as a choice under financial plans? (Many students enlist to receive educational tuition)

• Added to our suggestion list. More than likely, we will be able to add this when we launch the new version.

4. Is it possible to add a print option for just the “Post-Secondary” section?

• We only add a printer-friendly version when multiple pages are involved, so your best option is to use the browser’s print function on this page. I have nonetheless, added this to our suggestion list.

5. Is it possible to have the school information crosswalk itself back to the “Schools of Interest” section in the EDP?

• The program already does this.

Data Gathering

1. When sending student data information to Career Cruising, is it advantageous to wait as long as possible to insure that the data is clean? (ie. Second semester; students have moved into the district)

Page 10: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• Most data uploads are sent to us in the fall when we have the most resources available internally. Uploading can take up to 10 business days so it doesn’t matter really when it is submitted, so long as it is submitted at least 2-3 weeks prior to when the school intends to use the site. We cannot accommodate same day or overnight uploading.

2. Districts moving to a Trimester format will need more than 16 cells for course input when scheduling.

Page 12: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• We will be launching a new version of the Education Plan (I think next school year). The slot format will be removed and students will not be limited in the number of courses they can add. This will accommodate the Trimester education plans.

Data Gathering

3. Is it possible to have a section added as “Alternative Education” under the grade level area?

Page 14: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• We have the “Other” category at the moment. Most schools issue an equivalent grade level to their alternative education students and list to students in line with that grade level.

Data Gathering

4. Is it possible to have a section where data is secure, under assessments, that districts could download ACT scores into the system?

Page 16: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• We are adding the ability for advisors to add ACT scores (and some others as well) through CAMS, however, it will not be downloaded. Advisors will be required to input the assessments student by student. The assessments entered from CAMS will be locked on the student side (students will not be able to modify assessments added by their teachers/counselors).

5. Could there also be availability to denote the “World of Work Map” results in the assessment section?

• We will need exact specifications on what types of fields this would require.

Data Gathering

6. Can students become “Inactive” without someone personally selecting the change?

• Need more information.

Data Gathering

7. Can districts have access to a “county” database for transferring students?

Page 20: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• Due to laws related to online child security, advisors at a school are only authorized to view their own students. We also do not offer the transfer feature at the Regional Reporting System level.

8. Is it possible to add a “Comments” section to the assessment area?

• Need more information.

Data Gathering

9. Will there be a section added to reflect “Work Keys” and “MME”” results?

• We will need exact specifications on what types of fields this would require.

Data Gathering

10.Why does the EDP completion snapshot reports provide the information in the format that it does? (ie. Complete, Incomplete, and % Complete) In the % Complete section it only registers 100% or 0% complete. It does not reference 33%, 50%, or 66% for example. When the district administrators pull their reports it appears to them that the staff are not fulfilling their duties.

Page 24: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• The Completion Snapshot report, is meant to display how many students are finished vs. how many are not. It is looking for 100% complete vs. incomplete. It doesn’t concern itself with how many students are almost done because it’s a report designed to quickly display at the end of every school year the number of students that did not complete their EDPs (whether 1% complete or 99% complete).

• For a further breakdown, there are other reports like the Completion by Student and the Incomplete EDPs by Criteria that offer the information you are requesting (both are in CAMS as well as the RRS).

Career Pathways Connection

11.Could the “Michigan Pathway” associated with an individual career be listed at the top of the description instead of the bottom?

Page 26: Career Cruising Q & A CD Practitioner Work Group May 9, 2007

• Due to how this page is designed and given that not everyone uses the pathway systems, we are not able to move this section from the bottom of the page to the top. Doing so would mean that there would be a huge blank area in the top half for schools not using the pathways.
