The Career and Technical Education Teacher Certification Program (CTE TCP) is responsible for assisting teachers who have work experience in an industry related career (e.g. building construction, cosmetology, plumbing, welding) or a health science related field; and are eligible to receive an Alabama teacher certificate. Teachers must complete the CTE TCP training requirements to earn 196 total hours of professional development to become eligible for a renewable Bachelor’s Equivalent Technical Education 2 Certificate or Bachelor’s Equivalent Health Science 2 Certificate. Teacher enrollment in the CTE TCP is based upon recommendation from the local LEA and teachers must hold the Temporary Certificate, the Emergency Certificate or the Bachelor’s Equivalent Technical Education 1 Certificate or Bachelor’s Equivalent Health Science 1 Certificate.

Program participants are required to participate in the following professional development activities:

• attend face to face professional development sessions

• attend and support their respective Career Tech Student Organization (CTSO) state leadership conference

• visit and work with an experienced CTE teacher mentor in a related program area

• complete OSHA 10 hr. online training

• attend the ALACTE Summer Professional Development Conference

Additional required participants:

• Teachers pursuing the Professional Educator Certificate through the CT Alternative Baccalaureate Certification (CT ABC) route are required to complete one session, Session A, of the CTE TCP training requirements.

• Teachers seeking additional certification through the Additional Teaching Field Approach Based on Proficiency (CBP) are required to complete one session, Session A, of the CTE TCP training requirements.

Additional recommended participants:

• Teachers seeking additional certification through the Additional Teaching Field Approach Based on Test (CBT) are recommended to complete one session, Session A, of the CTE TCP training requirements.

Session A of the CTE TCP is a three day training event held once a year and offered during the summer.

First CT ABC

• Official transcript indicating a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited senior institutiono Applications received in the Educator Certification Section of the ALSDE prior to July 1, 2017

must be posted with a minimum overall GPA of at least 2.5 for the bachelor’s or higher degree

o Applications received on July 1, 2017, and thereafter must be posted with a minimum overall GPA of at least 2.75 for the bachelor’s degree must be posted with a minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0 for the master’s or higher degree

• Basic Skills Assessment (AECAP)

• Active Alabama license in an approved allied health specialty for Health Science program

• Valid Alabama Cosmetology Instructor license for Cosmetology program

An individual who has held an Emergency Certificate in health science or in a technical education program area is not eligible to receive a Temporary Certificate in the same area.

An individual who has held one Temporary Certificate is not eligible to receive another Temporary Certificate in any technical education program area or health science.

• Valid Professional Educator Certificate in a career and technical education teaching field

• Verification on an official transcript of earned credit, with a grade of “C” or above, in an approved cooperative education coordinator preparation course (Functions of the Coordinator, Principles of Coordination, or equivalent) at an Alabama institution with a State-approved program in a career and technical education teaching field

• Verification of two full scholastic years of full-time classroom teaching in a career and technical education teaching field within a 6-12 setting (experience must be verified on Supplement EXP)

Requirements for Health Science:

• Valid Master’s Equivalent Health Science 3 Certificate or Sixth-year Equivalent Health Science 4 Certificate

• Active Alabama license in an approved allied health specialty

• Verification of two full scholastic years of full-time classroom teaching experience in grades 6-12 health science

• Verification on an official transcript(s) of an earned bachelor’s or higher degree with an academic major in a healthcare or related area from a regionally accredited senior institution

o Applications received in the Educator Certification Section of the ALSDE prior to July 1, 2017

• Verification of two full scholastic years of full-time classroom teaching experience in grades 6-12 in the technical education program area for which the certificate is sought

• Verification on an official transcript(s) of an earned bachelor’s or higher degree with an academic major in the technical education program area for which the certificate is sought from a regionally accredited senior institution

o Applications received in the Educator Certification Section of the ALSDE prior to July 1, 2017
