Oral medications

Amalaki - Commonly known as amla or indian gooseberry is found all over india. It is considered to be the best herb for pacification of pitta dosha. This fruit serves as the richest natural source of vitamin C and contain anti-oxidants that can help to prevent arterial damage from free radicals as well as nourish the heart. This friut is the main content of the miraculous ayurvedic formulation chyavanprasha which can be consumed for having disease free long life.

Arjuna- The tree is indigenous to India though it is found also in Myanmar and Sri Lanka. The herb is used for strengthening the cardiac muscle; reduce arterial congestion and lowering blood pressure. Arjuna helps blood’s absorption of lipids indicating it has cholesterol-regulating properties .It also helps to reduce the effects of stress and nervousness on the heart.

Ashwagandha - This herb known as winter cherry in English is found mostly in regions of temperate climate. This herb is known to pacify the vata dosha. . It is an effective herb for helping reduce tension in the body and mind as well as strengthen the heart muscle. It is also indicated in various disorders like stress, loss of sleep, paralysis, loss of sexual drive, impotence and other such. Oil prepared from this herb is used for basti therapy in vata disorders

Dadima - This friut has been commonly used as an edible fruit, as well as for medicinal purpose. In English it’s called pomegranate and is cultivated throughout India. The sweet and sour taste of this fruit helps to improve the appetite. The fruit also serves to be a good source of anti-oxidants. In ayurvedic text’s this fruit is mentioned as a heart tonic which also purifies the blood. The juice of this fruit is best to pacify pitta dosha.

Diet and lifestyle advice

Avoid over-eating and eating frequently Milk products, fried foods, cold foods and acidic foods should be taken in

small quantities.

Animal products, especially meat, are not good as they take a long time to be digested, and create a lot of toxins in the stomach.

Fruits and fresh vegetables, brown bread, salad, sprouts, vegetable soup, buttermilk and ghee prepared from cow's milk, should be included in diet.

Anything sweet should be taken in moderation. Honey and jaggery are healthier than sugar.

Ayurveda suggests exercising within your own limitations and does not encourage excessive exercise that leaves you tired. Yoga, suryanamskara, pranayama are beneficial.

Avoid anxiety, worry and excessive sexual intercourse.

Have adequate rest during the day and good sleep at night.

Constipation should be avoided and if necessary a gentle laxative like Triphala choorna may be used.
