Delivery methodology
Key components in the Landscape Architecture Group’s
approach to project delivery include:
Appointment of a single contact point for projects to
manage design team progress and communication
with clients and ensure that time quality and cost
parameters are met.
Utilisation of Project Services’ multi-disciplinary team
environment to ensure timely and efficient provision
of allied professional services such as engineering,
architecture, quantity surveying etc. utilising external
resources to supplement specialist skills as needed.
Utilisation of Project Services Quality Assurance and
Environmental Management Systems to ensure
services are provided in a professional manner
meeting Client, Government & wider community
expectations.
Early landscape architectural involvement in projects
to optimise and acknowledge the contribution of site
values and context to the achievement of
environmentally sustainable and desirable project
outcomes. Such involvement may occur at site
selection, analysis and master planning stages &
also include brief validation or development & pre-
design reporting.
These early services may be followed by traditional
sketch design, design development and contract
documentation stages each with a client review and
approval requirement.
Design undertaken as an iterative process involving
appropriate liaison with allied professionals and the
client to ensure that the final product is both
technically appropriate and meets client
expectations.
Timely provision of construction phase advisory and
inspection services to ensure the design intent and
standard of finish is achieved in the constructed
landscape.
Utilisation of the post occupancy review processes as a
means to constantly improve our services and design
standards.

Project experience
Cliffs Boardwalk, Kangaroo Point
Project Services was designer for both landscape
architecture and architecture for minor structures. Project
Services designed, documented, detailed and supervised the
latter stages of this project. “The Cliffs” has walkways, cycle
pathways, BBQ and picnic areas, pavilions, jetties, boating
lagoon & public artworks as well as extensive plantings and
lookouts. It has been a resounding success with the people of
Brisbane and visitors. The landscape design received
several major design awards including the national Walter
Burley Griffin Award for open space design.
Heathlands Eliot Falls Master Plan
Eliot Falls lies within the Heathlands Resources Reserve on
Cape York Peninsula that is managed by the EPA through
the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services as part of the
adjacent Jardine River National Park. Project Services
redesigned the existing camping area to accommodate
commercial operators, independent campers and day users
including the location of new amenities blocks, signage &
information shelters. A new track layout was also planned to
link all areas together. The new master plan enables
degraded areas to be rehabilitated and facilitates more
efficient use of the available space while protecting the
natural assets of this pristine area.
Arts and Environmental Tourism Centre CSIT
Noosa Campus–Tewantin
The conservation of the environmental values of this sensitive
site were achieved by landscape architectural input in the
design of common services corridors, car park detailing &
layout, water harvesting & reuse strategy, earthworks
strategy to retain seed store viability & tree retention as far as
possible. Consultation with Community interest groups
facilitated a planting strategy to utilise seed collected on site.

Project experience
Old Museum Brisbane Gardens Conservation
Study
Project Services completed this study of the gardens of one
of Queensland most significant heritage properties in 1998.
The study comprised documentary research, an inventory of
existing gardens, assessment and statement of significance.
It complements a heritage study previously completed on the
building and together these studies are guiding the
redevelopment processes for the property.
The gardens conservation study received a John Herbert
Award from the National Trust of Queensland in 1999.
Tamborine Mountain State High School
The site of the new Tamborine Mountain State High School is
bounded to the east by Cedar Creek. Cedar Creek is an
important watercourse supplying water to farms along the
creek and the national parks and reserves, which are further
downstream.
As part of the design works for the school a comprehensive
revegetation program was designed and carried out along the
creek bank to rehabilitate its edges and create a wildlife
corridor.
Mary River Parklands
The Mary River Parklands project for Maryborough City
Council included 5000sqm of riverside parklands that re-
establish the linkage of this historic precinct to the riverbank
by the inclusion of a new jetty and the establishment of vistas
to the water. The project included BBQ areas, seating, public
art, pathways, a new train station for a historic train and
mangrove rehabilitation planting. Achieving equitable access
throughout the parklands was achieved as a high priority.

Project experience
Rockhampton River Bank Redevelopment
Rockhampton Riverbank Redevelopment is a major open
space initiative to improve public access to the river and
encourage people to enjoy the area, while retaining its
character and natural aspects. It includes a walking and
cycling loop linking both sides of the Fitzroy River, stabilised
tracks to the river, fishing piers, shelter-lookouts, seating,
barbeque and play areas, amenities blocks, an off-leash
dog area, protection of existing vegetation and revegetation,
new shade structures and trees. Collection and propagation
of the seeds of local plants has occurred to provide native
vegetation suited to Rockhampton’s dry conditions. The
project has also included a significant public consultation
and heritage, engineering and environmental investigations.
Kangaroo Point Park
Kangaroo Point Park is now a noteworthy green space where
once stood multi storey buildings of the TAFE College.
Commanding superior views of the Brisbane CBD and the
Botanic Gardens, this Park’s main attraction is as a major
vantage point for fireworks which are held on the adjacent
Brisbane River. Items include: lookout platforms, a cafeteria,
amenities, signage, BBQs, shelters, a serpentine arbour,
advanced tree planting, an amphitheatre, picnic tables and
seats, drinking fountains, open lawn areas and an accessible
path system. Lighting has been included to extend the use of
the Park into the evening.
A significant Art component has seen the inclusion of
sculptural elements that also cater as play spaces. Other art
pieces help to identify the park and contribute to its sense of
place. Contributing to the Park’s unique character has been
the use of site rock used as a feature in the paths and walls.
The project has also included significant stakeholder input
and heritage, engineering and environmental investigations

Project experience
Revegetation projects–various locations
The landscape architecture group has been involved in
revegetation and bushland rehabilitation projects throughout
many regions of the state to reinstate native forests in
landscapes disturbed by construction activity as well as
rehabilitating landscapes degraded by weed invasion or
erosion. Efforts have also been focussed on the
establishment of planting for windbreaks (Robina State High
School) and the establishment of visual buffers to a range of
security sensitive installations as well as more recently the
rehabilitation of forests for Koala conservation purposes
(Rochedale State School). Success of these projects has
come from firstly obtaining a comprehensive understanding
of the species compositions of the forest types involved, the soil types present, the degradation processes in action
and the maintenance and establishment resources that will
be available.
