CAP UCLA Presents Trio of Masters Pilc Moutin Hoenig

at Schoenberg Hall March 6

One of the astounding jazz piano trios of the past decade… in a class unto itself, stunning the

listener to attention.   JAZZ REVIEW  More than a decade after releasing three magnificent albums that rocked the jazz world and touring major venues and festivals around the globe, dazzling titan pianist JeanMichel Pilc, bona fide bass monster Francois Moutin and irrepressibly kinetic drummer Ari Hoenig come to Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA (CAP UCLA) Friday March 6 at 8 p.m. in Schoenberg Hall. Tickets ($29$39) are available now at cap.ucla.edu, Ticketmaster or the UCLA Central Ticket Office (310.825.2101).

When selftaught Frenchborn pianist Pilc moved to New York City in 1995 he quickly                           assembled a rhythm section of extraordinary skill. With Moutin on bass and Hoenig on drums,

the nowlegendary ensemble quickly established itself as one of the most important groups in the                             form.

Each member of this nearly perfect trio is a master player. And each member is also an                                 educator—imparting the realworld knowledge of what it takes to be a successful musician (both                           technically and practically) onto the next generation of jazz players. The trio will also present a                               demonstration performance to an audience of highschool students from across Los Angeles as                         part of the Center’s Design for Sharing artseducation program.

By leading ensemble workshops as a group, holding classes on harmony and interpretation as                           well as taking part in individual tutorials (such as Hoenig’s amazing work with melodic                           drumming), all while maintaining a rigorous tour schedule and leading their own bands and                           endeavors—Pilc Moutin Hoenig are the embodiment of what it means to be part of today’s vital                               jazz community.

TICKET INFORMATION: General tickets ($29$39/ $15 UCLA students) are available at                     cap.ucla.edu, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 310.825.2101 or in person at the UCLA                           Central Ticket Office located in the southwest corner of the James West Alumni Center. Student                             rush tickets, subject to availability, are offered at $15 to UCLA students and $18 to other                               students with valid ID one hour before show time.
