ADJUSTMENT LOCATIONS:Rangefinder, horizontal ARangefinder, vertical BMeter calibration CMeter housing position DRangefinder resistor EDiaphragm opening FTrapping blade QRelease over travel HTransport release IFocus J

    ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE:

    1. Hold the control end of the meterneedle aligned with the f/5.6scribe line, Fig. 3. and release theshutter at the auto setting. Thediaphragm should stop down tof/5.6. To check, watch thediaphragm as you rotate thediaphragm-setting ring to themanual f/stop settings. When thediaphragm just starts to open, the f/stop calibration tells youthe actual diaphragm opening. The diaphragm should start tomove when you reach the f/5.6

calibration. Adjust with eccentricF, Fig. 3.

    2. Hold the control end of theneedle aligned with the f/5.6scribe and note the f/stopindication through the finder.Bend the readout end of theneedle to align with f/5.6 in thefinder.

    3. If you make the adjustment instep #1, check to make sure thetrapping blade is not in the pathof the meter needle until youpush the release. The curved

edge of the trapping bladeshould align with the curve in theslot, Fig. 3. Turn the eccentric G in Fig. 3 so that the trappingblade clears the needle. If thecamera does not have theeccentric, you may have to bendpin G, Fig. 4.

    4. Make sure that the shutter

releases after the stepped blaengages the needle to set aperture. Adjust with eccentror by changing the spathickness between the shuttrelease plate and the connectlever, Fig. 3. Also adjust release over travel (at le0,4mm additional travel of release button after the shutreleases) with eccentric I.

    6. CATS adjustment. Set auto, ASA100, and the 2-meter focusposition. Cover the CdS ceil andshort between ground and theCATS contact, Fig. 1. The needleshould indicate between f/5 6and f/8. If not, rotate the meterhousing or shift the position ofthe rangefinder-resistor band,Fig. 2.

    7. Focus adjustment. Loosen thethree setscrews on the outercircumference of the focus ring. Also loosen screw J, Fig 3. Setthe focus ring to infinity and slidescrew J for the best infin ity focus.

DISASSEMBLY HIGHLIGHTS:Position of left-hand threads: shutter-retaining ring in G-lll (normal threadin Now Canonet QL 17/19)

    Sequence:

    1. top and bottom cavers (batterycover and cover spring loose)

    2. 2 sections, front leatherette3. 2 front-cover plates, one on each

side of lens (2 screws each)

    4. unsolder red wire from battery-test board, Fig. 7

    5. 2 screws holding shutter-releaseplate to connecting lever (adjust-ment spacer loose)

    6. 4 screws, corners of lensstandard

    7. lift aside lens standard (view-finder mask loose)

    8. unsolder blue battery wire fromterminal board

Sequence to remove shutter:1. unsolder the five wires that come

through the shutter port: yellow from rangefinder

    resistor

    white and purple from terminalboard

red from variable resistorblack from hot-shoe contact

    2. free wires from wire clamps3. rear light shield (2 screws)4. unscrew rear lens group5. unscrew shutter-retaining ring

    (left-hand thread in G-lll)

Sequence to reach switches at frontof shutter:1. front-retaining ring, identifica-

tion ring, photocell mask2. unscrew front lens groupNote: Unscrewing the complete lens

cell requires a special spannerT0630-13-9246-1T. Without thespecial tool, you can first remove thefront element. It's then possible toreach the spanner notches in the cell.

    3. 2 screws holding CdS cell4. filter ring (3screws) pass CdS

cell through cutout in filter ring5. speed-setting ring (tab on ring

passes into slot in speed cam)6. film-speed setting ringNote. To reach the shuttemechanism, disassemble from theback of the shutter rather than fromthe front.

REASSEMBLY HIGHLIGHTS:To mount the shutter to the lensstandard:1. Seat the intermediate ring and

the charge ring on the back of theshutter, Fig. 6.

    2. Push the end of the shutterrelease lever as far as it will go

toward the lens opening.3. Seat the lens standard over the

shutter, making sure that the tabon the charge ring passesthrough the slot in the shutter-charge lever and that theaperture-connecting pin passesabove the aperture-connectinglever.

METER TESTS:1. Check the CdS cell between the

yellow wire connected to therangefinder resistor and ground.

    2. Check the galvanometer be-tween the red wire at the variableresistor and the blue wire at theterminal board. Approximate coilresistance: 1.6K.

    3. At the auto setting, the needledeflection should change as youchange the film-speed setting,shutter-speed setting, and lightlevel. No deflection check theCdS cell, the galvanometer, thebattery connections, and thebrush contacts at the front of theshutter.

    4. At the guide-number settings, the needle deflection shouldchange as you change the focussetting and the light level. Nochange at the different focussettings check the rangefinderresistor and the switch at thefront of the shutter. Check theswitch between the white leadfrom the rangefinder resistor andground: you should measuredirect continuity at the guide-

number settings and nocontinuity at auto.

    5. The meter should turn off at themanual f/stop setting (switch atfront of shutter).

    6. At auto, the lock on the releaseplate, Fig. 3, should prevent theshutter from releasing if theneedle is in one of the red areasat either end of the viewfinderscale (underexposure or over-exposure). The shutter shouldalways release at the manualI/stop settings.

    BATTERY-CHECKER TESTS:1. The battery-test lamp should

turn on when you short B.C., Fig.2, to ground.

    2. The battery-test lamp shouldturn on with 1V connecteddirectly between its leads.

    3. If the battery-test lamp does not

turn on with a good battery, check the voltage at thetransistor base, Fig. 7. If youmeasure the proper base bias(D.8V), the transistor is the

problem. If you do not measurethe base bias, there's an open inthe bias path (one of the resistorson the underside of the battery-test board or the thermistor).

OTHER COMMENTS;1. You can reach the rangefincder

    adjustments without removing

the top cover. Slide off thaccessory-shoe cover to reacthe horizontal adjustmenunscrew the cover screw at thback of the top cover to reach th

vertical adjustments. The rangefinder resistor comein two parts the carboresistor and a contact strip, Fig2. If you replace either part, applconductive paint such as SilvePrint between the contact strand the resistance bend ashown in Fig. 2.
