Location– Huge landmass that
stretches from the Arctic Ocean to the northern border of the United States, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
– Canada is the second largest country in the world.
Canada Landforms
• St. Lawrence River – located in eastern Canada between the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean.
• Hudson Bay – located north of the province of Ontario
• The Great Lakes – located south of the province of Ontario and forms the border between the United States and Canada

geographic area in eastern and central Canada composed of bare rock dating to the Precambrian era .
• Rocky Mountains – large mountain range that runs through the western United States and Canada.

• 1497 - John Cabot set sail for the shores of Newfoundland.
• Cabot made two additional voyages and was lost at sea on the second voyages.
• England lays claim to Newfoundland.

• Samuel de Champlain arrived at Quebec in the early 1500’s.
• French established New France.

• French and English became the dominant language spoken in Canada.
• The French brought Roman Catholic.
• The British brought Anglican.

After the Seven Year’s War (French and Indian War) France ceded all land in the New World to England with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.

• In 1867, all remaining British territories in the North America were brought together under one federation, the Kingdom of Canada.
• Canada’s role in WWI led to a sense of Canadian nationalism.
