Emergencies Catch Us Off Guard

No one wants to think about these topics, let alone prepare for them; but when disaster strikes, your school needs to have a proficient plan of action. Digital Signage helps campuses be prepared because of it’s ability to integrate with emergency responders while providing communication around campus.

Whether your school uses e2Campus uAlert, Blackboard, or Campus Alert- digital signage can integrate with these systems and transmit alerts throughout your campus. With the further incorporation of dynamic content regarding safety protocols, digital signage assists with the creation of a safe campus environment.

In the event of an emergency, the first step is to inform the entire campus, as efficiently as possible. The fastest, most useful way to spread the message is the application of your digital signage. Once an emergency is triggered via your alert system, it will send down a message that will take over the displays of your choice with an emergency notification and any relevant information, such as evacuation procedures. An Alert Integration is designed to assist schools and communities in any situation, from fire drills to storm notifications.

With the Alert Integration, emergency information is automatically disclosed to the appropriate outlets. Campuses can rest assured they are fully compliant while having every communication channel prepared to notify students in the event of an emergency. With proper preparations, digital signage is the most effective way to reach a lot of people quickly and spread the word.

Digital Signage And The Four Steps Of Crisis Management

PREVENTION:Reduce the damage risks by avoiding dangerous situations. Create ‘Prevention Campaigns’ to transmit to all signage on regular days that focus on the process of handling worst-case scenarios. These campaigns can play in a cycle with other channels daily, to ensure their message is received. -Incorporate tips for preventing fires. -Supply information for ‘safety riders,’ school shuttles, or taxis. -Include health tips. -Warn campus of low or high temperatures. ‘Stay Hydrated’ or ‘Dress in layers.’ -Supply contact information for campus safety if suspicious activity is witnessed on campus. -Create informative slides that teach viewers how to use defibrillators or administer CPR.

PREPAREDNESS:It is the campus’ responsibility to meet with superintendents, principals and local officials to create a plan of action regarding any emergency. A chain of command should be implemented for each crises category. Creating multiple escape routes to ‘safety-zones’ in case the first is obstructed or deemed unsafe. Integrate these plans into your Digital Signage for automated alerts during an event.

- Customize campaigns to point out where the nearest first aid kits are located adjacent to each Digital Sign. - Utilize Wayfinding integrations to inform users of fire escape routes. - Dedicate slides that identify floor/area/department leaders who will account for students. - Create instructional slides that teach viewers how to use fire extinguishers or how to assemble other necessary equipment.

RESPONSE:Response is the term for how plans are put into action during an event. With the Alert Integration, your message is automatically displayed on your signage in the case of an emergency, allowing faculty and staff to take care of their number one priority- the students. Instead of communicating via email and phone, Alert Integration allows campus staff to make use of their preparations during a situation and focus on establishing a recovery plan.

RECOVERY:Recovery relates to how normalcy is regained after a situation. Each emergency requires a different recovery plan. After the event, the Alert Integrations will cease and regular campaigns will resume. This helps the environment to resume regularity. During this time, campus life should return to its typical schedule, as best as possible.
