CMS Faculty Service Trip
During Fall Break, a contingent of faculty representing
CMS traveled to Cartagena, Columbia for a service trip. This
trip was sponsored by the Fundacion (Foundation)
Caratagena Global, a non-profit organization headed by Pro-
fessor J.R. Pico of the University of Indiana and his wife
Mrs. Nelson Pico. Principal Tanner, Ms.Thompson & hus-
band (our honorary photographer & translator for Cobb
County) Counselor Gorrell, Teachers Farzad, Hogan,
Pouncey, Tillman and Weinmann, in addition to two of Cobb
County’s Translators Maribona and Yazbak (husband), were
all part of this heart-warming, well-coordinated and overall
amazing trip.
The group visited two schools, including one in the very
poor Villa Gloria neighborhood, The Seeds of Hope Chil-
dren’s Charity Hospital and the Fundevida Children’s Can-
cer Home. While there, they gave approximately 1,000 lbs.
(half a ton) of clothes, school supplies, plush toys and other
donations to these beautiful children. One little cancer pa-
tient received her wish: an electronic tablet!
In addition, the group enjoyed some beach time, a tour of
the historic walled Colonial City, The San Felipe Fort and La
Popa Monastery. They lunched at the Botanical Gardens,
had a boat ride and beach time on the Rosario Islands and
participated in dancing and cooking classes. Local hosts
Dr. and Mrs. Lorduy were gracious and opened both their
home and hearts to the Foundation and its efforts.
*Want to help? Our CMS Student Council will be organizing a fund
raiser for future Fundacion service missions. Stay tuned for details
