Welcome to Issue 9Dear Partners,

As we are quickly approaching the last quarter of this current financial year we are pleased to announce that for the third year in succession Konica Minolta has managed to secure three coveted BLi 2015 PRO Awards. The three Konica Minolta systems – the bizhub PRESS 1052, 2250P and C1100 - were honored as outstanding production devices in the monochrome light to mid-volume, colour mid-volume and monochrome mid to high-volume categories.

A FograCert Validation Printing System (VPS) certificate has also been awarded to Konica Minolta’s bizhub PRESS C1070 and bizhub PRESS C1100. The certificate was issued for each printer’s performance in conjunction with the latest Konica Minolta Color Care software and for both systems when running with EFI Fiery, CREO or Konica Minolta controller.

And we did not stop there…

As the only company in the Information Technology sector, Konica Minolta has been selected in “Climate Performance Leadership Index” and “Japan 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index” by CDP – resulting in Konica Minolta’s awarding with a position on the A List of “The CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index 2014 (CPLI)” for its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the business risk of climate change.

We hope that you feel just as proud as we do!

Wishing you all a fantastic last quarter and that all targets will be met.

Until we meet again.

Yours,

Mark Oldfield

mark and therefore cannot be sold with EU Markets.

On the other hand, for the rest, these two new additions should give an added advantage in daily business due to the cheaper price of the product when compared to our other products in the same range of functionalities. The C221 and C281 will be sold in both brands.

The standard language for these 2 models includes only English and Portuguese due to space restrictions on the hard disk. However French and Russian are also available as options through firmware download from CSES starting from next month.

Obviously, these are lower-end products compared to our Zeus MLK range; however, we can proudly say that print quality and environmental

These two models will be exclusive to the CAMEA market only – this, with the exceptions of Malta and Cyprus. The reasons for excluding the Maltese and Cyprian markets is due to the fact that the new models lack the ‘CE’ certification

performances go head to head with any model from the C224e range! Direct printing is also possible with PageScope Mobile and USB sticks. Adding these benefits to its compact size lower price, it should greatly support your sales efforts and extend your range of customers.

Marketing material for the C221 and C281 is now also available:

• Brochure/Data Sheet, • Powerpoint presentation,• Banner and• PosterShould you wish to receive the

above materials please send an email to: [email protected]

Please note that the C221 and C281 are not available for Cyprus, Canary Islands and Malta.

As you might already be aware, since we announced this at our Annual Distributor Meeting last August in Zanzibar, as of this month we will have a new addition to our hardware portfolio – the bizhub C221 and bizhub C281.

No particular person I can think of but quite a few people I worked with and met throughout my life managed to leave a mark on me.

Can you describe a typical day or week in your position?

For the third time, Konica Minolta, sponsored the Pioneers Festival as Global Partner which took place from the 29th until the 30th of October in Vienna, Austria. On board is one of the four Konica Minolta’s Business Innovation Centres (BIC), which Konica Minolta, Inc. has newly established in 2014. Under this year’s motto of “Innovation and the power of many”, the BIC’s approach is to involve the community, namely start-ups, in co-innovation. To emphasise this future model, the BIC Europe today announced its investment sum of over 10 million euros in start-up funding over the next two to three years.

Konica Minolta invests 10 million euros for co-innovation with start-ups

Every year, about 2,500 attendees take part at the Pioneers Festival, one of the most prominent technology festivals in Europe. The event educates and brings together European start-ups, established companies and investors. By supporting start-ups, Konica Minolta helps the young entrepreneurs to put their innovative business ideas into practice. Konica Minolta does not only promote and support start-ups but, through exchange and networking with these young entrepreneurs, Konica Minolta can benefit from new stimuli and innovations.

“Innovation and the

power of many”

Konica Minolta’s long-term commitment to innovation plays a key role in the concern strategy. Today, Konica Minolta announced its planned investment sum of over 10 million euros in start-up funding over the next two to three years. “Our vision is to develop innovative products, which will revolutionise the market. That is why we are now going through an amazing and radical change. A company, whose roots are printers, is now involving the community and start-ups in order to create innovations on a common basis. This is a radical change – from exclusively proprietary products to collaborative co-innovation. That is why our motto is: ‘Innovation and the power of many’. Those co-innovation models are what we consider a future model”, Dr. Dennis Curry says.

Curry is the Director of the BIC Europe, based in London. This is one of four BICs, already established by

Konica Minolta in each of four key regional markets of North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Japan to develop new businesses and thus respond to regional customer needs and markets.

Start-up meets

enterprise: Win-win

situation for both

“Start-ups profit enormously from collaboration with established companies like Konica Minolta”, Curry comments. “We own resources, networks and management know-how. Being a partner with us means always playing a part in designing the future and obtaining privileged access to Konica Minolta’s industry-leading know-how. Our partners get access to our leading R&D, including top-tier scientists and engineers worldwide.” Start-ups in particular can speed up the time to market for

their new products by leveraging our supply chain and sales channels. They accelerate their return on investment and company growth. “Konica Minolta wants to draw in Europe’s top talent from start-ups. To create this win-win situation, we need platforms upon which companies and start-ups can meet. The Pioneers Festival is such a platform and therefore we support Pioneers since foundation,” Curry emphasizes.

The first strategic partner of Konica Minolta is the Austrian start-up Wikitude. Today, Konica Minolta announced its initial intention to partner and investment in the company which is a pioneer in the field of mobile augmented reality (AR) technology. Wikitude has won a score of awards for AR solutions for smartphones, tablets and wearable display technologies. “When a multinational company like Konica Minolta engages in a partnership dedicated to augmented reality, the possibilities are enormous. While we

at Wikitude will provide our award-winning technology, expertise and vision, it will be Konica Minolta’s market presence and business network to mark the next milestone on our mission to augment the enterprise world”, Martin Herdina, CEO of Wikitude says.

Leading Edge Partner

Community

The co-innovation thought is also been borne by the “Leading Edge Partner Community”, the BIC Europe is launching today. This is a pan-European tool to build up new partnerships and develop innovations together with these partners. The community is a place to collaborate online, i.e. in special Leading Edge Networking Sessions (LENS), as well as during client events and start-up events, such as the Pioneers Festival. It is a place to achieve knowledge transfer and advance the commercialisation of ideas and prototypes. Anyone with an idea can join the community and apply for funding. Promising development ideas will pass through a formal investment process consisting of five review points, which Konica Minolta will use to filter the most viable partners to take a business idea right through to commercialisation. The emphasis is on co-innovation, on working with others in related fields to accelerate the realisation of a proof of concept or vision. Those related technology fields are the digital workplace, healthcare business, information automation and business technologies.

Ideation Platform

Konica Minolta has set up a specific ideation platform especially for the Pioneers Festival: https://pioneers.konicaminoltabic.spigit.com. If start-ups have an idea, a concept or product connected to the related fields, they can join the platform and submit their ideas. The best ideas will win the opportunity to shape the future digital workplace in the Konica Minolta labs and receive the funding. For further information, visit http://pioneers.konicaminolta.eu/.

Fogra certification bizhub PRESS C1070 & C1100 printersA FograCert Validation Printing System (VPS) certificate has been awarded to Konica Minolta’s bizhub PRESS C1070 and bizhub PRESS C1100 digital printing systems. The certificate was issued for each printer’s performance in conjunction with the latest Konica Minolta Color Care software and for both systems when running with EFI Fiery, CREO or Konica Minolta controller.

“Fogra has once again certified us for our integrated solutions in digital printing,” says Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen, Product Manager Production Printing Group at Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. “This proves that the bizhub PRESS C1070 and C1100 comply with the highest industry standards. When used in combination with one of the controllers we offer for these devices and with Konica Minolta Color Care, our very own Colour Manage and Control software, these devices offer near-offset quality and performance coupled with all the flexibility of a digital printing system.”

Based on ISO 12647-8, Fogra VPS certification defines the standards of colour and appearance validation prints must meet, e.g.

proofing substrate colour and gloss, colour accuracy and compliance with the PDF/X standard. The bizhub PRESS C1070 and C1100 colour production printing systems are now certified when running with the optional EFI Fiery, CREO or Konica Minolta controllers.

Besides the above-mentioned controllers, the Konica Minolta Color Care package was the second component that helped these digital printing systems gain Fogra certification. This software ensures a specific level of colour quality for any Konica Minolta colour device it is installed in. The package also includes a professional service offering to ensure that near-contract proofing requirements are satisfied within the scope of each system’s capabilities.

through running at the rated engine speed when producing jobs with multi-tray switching and coated inserts. “Not only is it highly productive,” said Pete Emory, “… it (also) offers excellent media-handling capabilities, and its input and output paper capacities are so high it can run for about eight hours before requiring operator attention.”

“Impressive all-round performance”

Earning high ratings across the board in all the categories covered by BLI’s Production Field Test, the 100-ppm bizhub PRESS C1100 is the BLI’s 2015 PRO Award winner in the category ‘Outstanding Colour Mid-Volume ProductionpenDocument Device’. As one of the best production devices BLI has evaluated to date, the PRESS C1100 scored no less than 4.5 stars (from a maximum of five) in all the tested categories. “The bizhub PRESS C1100 will be a good fit in mid-volume production environments regardless of whether productivity, image quality, media handling or ease of use is the main concern,” said David Sweetnam. “This system was one of the few production units to earn BLI’s highest 5-star rating for colour consistency, text and fine lines. And it outperformed its closest

It was the third year in succession that Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe has won these coveted Awards. Each system’s performance clearly impressed the BLI jury. As David Sweetnam, Head of BLI’s European Lab and Research Services, noted, the C1100 delivered “an impressive all-round performance” and the PRESS 2250P was an “excellent and cost-effective choice”. Pete Emory, BLI Director of Laboratory Testing, described the PRESS 1052 as an “excellent blend of everything that’s most important in monochrome production environments”. “We are very proud that the PRESS 1052 won a BLI 5-star rating for productivity,” said Michael Mølbæk, Senior Manager, Production Printing Division, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. “That we also received BLI PRO Awards for our PRESS 2250P and PRESS C1100, the latter with very high ratings in all categories, proves that our production printing systems can meet the market’s highest expectations.”

“Excellent blend of everything”

The 105-ppm bizhub PRESS

1052 is the BLI’s 2015 PRO Award winner in the category ‘Outstanding Monochrome Light- to Mid-Volume Production Device’. By matching or surpassing its competitors in almost all the nearly 20 speed tests, this system earned BLI’s highest 5-star rating for productivity and outperformed all its competitors

competitors when printing on A3 and larger paper.”

“Cost-effective choice”

Impressive paper handling, powerful productivity and a wide range of adjustments to help achieve optimum image quality earned the tandem-engine bizhub PRESS 2250P BLI’s 2015 PRO Award in the category ‘Outstanding Monochrome Mid- to High-Volume Production Device’. BLI cited in particular its performance on A3 and larger media, where it surpassed the performance of competing devices. Other strengths of this tandem-engine system that contributed to the PRO Award included extensive job-building and advanced page-level programming capabilities; highly featured drag-and-drop hot folder functionality; an easy-to-use media catalogue; and Konica Minolta’s Tone Curve utility, which provides users with professional-grade custom grey programming capability.

David Sweetnam’s concluding comment underlines where this system’s strengths will bring big benefits: “Our results clearly show the bizhub PRESS 2250P to be an excellent and cost-effective choice for organisations entering the short-run book printing market.”

Three Konica Minolta systems – the bizhub PRESS 1052, 2250P and C1100– were recently honoured with BLI PRO Awards as ‘Outstanding Production Devices’ in the monochrome light to mid-volume, colour mid-volume and monochrome mid- to high-volume categories.

NEW(S)

Skysat technologies recently participated at the yearly NIPEX exhibition, held at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos from 16th - 18th October 2014. The Skysat stand was the largest stand of the expo, occupying the first entrance section.

On display was a bizhub C1070 with PF602m and FS612 (Skysat’s preferred configuration for Nigeria), and a fully loaded C454e complete with finishing, mobile printing etc.

A total of 400 visitors attended and during the event Skysat sold a bizhub C1070 and 3 units of C454e/C224e.

For the first time during this exhibition Skysat did NOT invite any of their existing contacts to visit the show - They capitalised on the exhibitors and their competitors inviting their own customers so they could build a new database of customers

Participating in these tradeshows is always rewarding: you meet new customers, you get to see what the competition is doing, what new products are being marketed.

Skysat - Nigeria

The market is indeed getting more and more competitive - all Skysat’s competitors were present with their latest colour machines.

Weddings save the day for Konica Minolta India

Weddings are always a gala affair in India. We don’t shy away from spending our lives’ savings in one wedding. Apart from several businesses including catering and decoration that are cashing in on this market, the digital printing segment is the one that is solely thriving on this. Weddings are not going to go out of fashion in India in the near future and people want their wedding memories to be captured with the best of technologies available.“Wedding is a huge market. Let’s say 40 crore people are of marriageable age in India at any point in time. Even if only 20 crore of them opt to get married, you have 10-crore marriages. At least three albums get made for every wedding for various occasions. Indians spend about Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per album. That is the size of the market we are targeting,” said V Balakrishnan, executive general manager – marketing division of

Konica Minolta India. The Japanese major whose name was synonymous to photography, terminated all its camera, photographic and processing products and services in 2006. Since then, it has been focusing on other areas including production printing, optics technology, medical imaging, measuring instruments, inkjet print head and solutions for planetariums. The company that was selling only through distributors, directly ventured into India in 2010. It had less than 4 per cent share in the market then. Konica Minolta realised the need for direct presence in India given the huge opportunity, Balakrishnan said. It has now grown to be a sizeable player in the large-format printing segment, he added.

“We are No. 1 in the production printing space with about 51 per cent share in the market that sees about

1,000-unit sales per year. In the A3 office printing segment, we are No. 1 in colour (27 per cent) and No. 3 in monochrome (19 per cent). The overall market size is about 1-lakh units a year. We launched our A4 printing machines for the small office and home segment only last year and are trying to establish a widespread distribution network now. The market size is about 16.8-lakh units per year,” he said.

India is one of the very few markets in the world where digital printing is growing at a compounded annual growth of about 23 per cent. Though consumers in general are trying to reduce prints, overall print volumes are going up because India as an economy is growing. Weddings are saving grace and there is enough space for all playersto grow.

Office SolutionsKonica Minolta offers you an

extensive portfolio of software applications accompanied by diligent business process consulting, not only to optimise existing structures and workflows but to help you create and set up entirely new work cycles.

However, we believe it is time that these solutions are categorized in a distributor-friendly way, depending on their proper target audience.

We adopted the solution matrix to your needs and modified it just enough by adding fields such as; Customer Type, Customer Size, definition of Customer Size (rough estimation/indicative figures)

This solution matrix will enable you to better select the best fitting solution for your particular client, case by case – enabling you to build an offer based solely on your estimations.

Please Note: Customer size mentioned

is only indicative. To adopt a more realistic figure to your local market – classify customer size (by device fleet) according to your business and define what is small, medium, large or XL in your market. Then simply match your outcomes with the sizes as indicated in the matrix and this will give you a clearer idea.

Familiarising yourself with our Solution Portfolio - PageScope Enterprise Suite (PSES)

Dear readers, in our last edition, Andrea and myself introduced the Solution Matrix concept. For those of you that did not manage to read the article, the Solution Matrix is designed to help you as distributors understand better which solution fits which customer best. This will help you make your own initial evaluation of tenders etc…

In today’s issue and the coming ones, we would like to tackle each solution individually and break it down for your understanding in order to familiarise yourselves as much as possible with the solutions from our portfolio – and we can’t emphasize this enough in this day and age. It is now widely accepted by everyone in our business that we are now slowly detaching ourselves from the box-moving industry and assuming a more solution/service-centric approach.

This article will explain in detail the most popular solution in the CAMEA Market – the PageScope Enterprise Suite or as it is most commonly known, the PSES.

There are 5 modules that make up the PSES;

PageScope Net Care Device Manager

As the core element of the PageScope Enterprise Suite, the Net Care Device Manager streamlines the complete management of all output devices in the corporate network. With its broad scope of features, the software provides a central device database and monitoring functionality. Fast deployment of settings and a cloning feature make this the perfect tool for any print

administrator in charge of a fleet of output devices. The capabilities of the Net Care Device Manager are available in full for Konica Minolta output devices. Certain printers and multifunctional third-party devices can also be accessed and monitored with this tool.

PageScope Authentication Manager

What is it?The PageScope Authentication

Manager module specifically targets customer environments that make use of individual user accounts with individual user rights and central monitoring. The application serves as a central user database and can be dynamically accessed by all networked devices.

About the software;Central database: All users

with access to output devices for copying, printing and scanning are conveniently and centrally managed in the Authentication Manager’s database.

Synchronisation with existing user directories: Windows Server Active Directory, LDAP and Novell

Directory Services are supported.Permission templates and user

roles: easy to create and facilitate the convenient management of different device access levels.

High granularity: Function permission templates include user rights such as copying, printing, scanning or faxing, colour access (separately for all functions), embedded browser access as well as printing from USB storage.

Centralised management of authentication types: the administrator can centrally define the preferred type of user authentication (PIN, Card, Bio, etc.)

Optional support for biometric authentication: biometric finger vein authentication (requires the optional authentication unit) for highest level of access security.

PageScope Account Manager

What is it?Dedicated to comprehensive

print output and cost control, the PageScope Account Manager provides print-intensive environments with the means to self-assess print costs and enforce cost management procedures. It

The Konica Minolta Colour Coverage Analyser estimates the amount of toner or ink required for a print job and shows the coverage for different printers and printing technologies. It also allows comparing two printers or printing technologies with each other.

Information on the toner or ink coverage of a document to be printed is essential to understand the real print costs. Developed by Konica Minolta, the Colour Coverage Analyser not only enables users to estimate the amount of toner or ink required for a print job. The application also shows the coverage for different printers and printing technologies, including laser, inkjet and offset. For this, the respective colour profile used is taken into account.

Of practical use for operators is the capability to compare the performance of two printers on the basis of their contract data and consumable costs, to indicate which device offers the best value for the print job at hand.

The functionality of Konica

Minolta’s Colour Coverage Analyser supports operators in selecting the right output device for every print job with the goal of economic document production. This enables printing companies and CRDs to safeguard their budgets and provide customers with more precise cost calculations. Ultimately, the Colour Coverage Analyser helps printers secure highest margins.

Budget & quota management

Coverage calculation: The application calculates the ink

or toner coverage for print jobs. This calculation isavailable for single-page as well as multi-page jobs.

CMYK data are evaluated by page and on average for the whole job. Via the virtual CCA printer, direct data import is possible for PDF and indirect data import for PostScript files. ICC profiles are supported to enhance the coverage calculation for specific output devices or special print simulations. Data can also be exported from the application to a file

Following the introduction of the Solution Matrix in our last CAMEA Connect issue, this month we would like to introduce you to the first Production Printing solution; Colour Coverage Analyser.

Colour Coverage Analyser - Enhancing Print Cost Transparency

with comma-separated values (.CSV) for further analysis.

Click cost calculation: This is available for toner-based

and ink-based devices as well as for offset machines and wide-format printers. All costs for ink or toner, parts, manpower, etc. as well as various contract conditions (such as all-inclusive without toner) can be preset for the calculation. This can be further enhanced, for example by adding the cost of paper, duplex printing and n-up. The resulting costs can be calculated for a single printed set or multiplied depending on the quantity in the total print run.

Click cost comparison: The Colour Coverage Analyser

enables various comparisons, such as comparing the performance of two identical systems, or comparing for example a digital printing device against offset production. A total cost calculation for both devices and a comparison of this is provided, as well as a break-even analysis, which includes a graphical visualisation.

.SUCCESSSTORY - CAMEA

At Konica Minolta we continuously strive in maximizing the benefits of our products thus selling customer solutions rather than just boxes. Focusing on this concept our Kazakhstan distributor Infoland has recently completed an installation of an online mailing system combining a Konica Minolta bizhub 1052 together with a Weltec 120 AT Mail finisher 3rd Party solution at Social fund of the Kyrgyz Republic, the executive branch of the state’s social insurance and pension funding acting on the principles of self-government.The challenge that Infoland had was to supply an inexpensive solution

which allows total print automation of confidential data, saving Social Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic up to 50% of the total running costs within the print mailing process. This was only possible due to the elimination of A4 envelopes and A4 sheets which are quite costly and alternatively using pre glued and pre-creased paper and printing in duplex mode once printing is ready sheets are folded and glued using pressure seal. This process also eliminated a substantial amount of manual handling since the whole process is now completed online.By offering this solution to the customer Infoland where ahead of

competition due to the fact that the solution which their competitor offered required quite a substantial amount of manual handling apart from the cost of A4 Envelopes and A4 paper as previously described. The total hardware included is also cheaper to what the competitor had to offer.

We would like to congratulate all the staff at INFOLAND LLC and LOGIC for their efforts in making this solution possible and once again emphasise to all our partners the importance of maximising the utilisation of Konica Minolta products.

by Michel Sebag - Strategic Business Unit Manager

The “cost per page” concept (or “click cost”) is a system to invoice based upon pages scanned, printed, or copied by the organizations personnel or departments.

IT departments have, in general, only a vague idea of their printing costs, consumables and maintenance. Very few organizations in CAMEA currently have systems to recover costs within their users.

Due to the current trends in reducing expenses, companies have recognized their need to calculate and allocate all their internal print costs.

The “cost per page” concept allows the distributor to provide to their customers with an additional service. In addition – this allows

them during the renewal of maintenance contracts to have a strong knowledge of their customers printing requirements and associated costs.

This “Print fleet Management Concept” will allow you to protect yourself from “grey” consumables resellers and create a recurring income. At the end of the contract, customers generally will renew automatically even if the hardware works properly.

In addition, by managing the cost per page and the price of the machine, you can easily adjust your offer against competitors and create more margins while preserving a “Service Company” brand image.

For example, within Konica Minolta France, all channels do 100% of its sales in “cost per page” contracts resulting in 421 million euros sales turnover in 2013.

As key partners in our GMA

strategy (Global Major Account), Konica Minolta offers the local distributors the opportunity to be their local representatives in international sales. These trade agreements are offered in cost per page to facilitate the knowledge of an account. Following up these “leads” generated by Konica Minolta offers you the opportunity to meet local decision makers from our Major Accounts.

The cost per page is not normalized. You can include what you want in your calculations and your offers will become incomparable to those of your competitors. You therefore protect your fleet.

Konica Minolta is offering to help you develop your CPP offers and Michel Sebag is at your disposal(for the French speaking Countries) for all your demands on setting up a “click per page program”. Do not hesitate to contact him!

OPS Training Event

Istanbul, 13th – 16th October

Last month, we held our second major OPS Training event to date, on-boarding some of the few remaining distributors who could not join our first training sessions. Thus time around, we had to do both sales and technical training in one go – for time reasons, and to bring the remaining distributors up to speed with the OPS project. However, the training proved to be as successful as the first! The training was held at our offices in the capital of Turkey - Istanbul. The partners that took part in this training were Sistec (Angola), SKYSAT (Nigeria and Ghana), Copytech (Lebanon) and Brithol Michcoma (Mozambique).

Dear readers, in this month’s edition I am very pleased to update you on our OPS endeavours. These past 2 months have been quite productive in this field, and OPS figures for CAMEA are on the rise as well, following in the footsteps of our European business.
