2017-2018 Budget Impact on Poor Families?
More Deep Poverty &
“State CalWORKs Child Abuse” Continues
CalWORKs families living on a
fixed cash aid monthly payment
that is equal to 31% of the federal
poverty level (equal to deep pov-
erty) will get $00.00 in the budget
for 2017-2018 while welfare ad-
ministrators will get over $250 mil-
lion.
$140 million to County Single Allocation for 2017-2018
$100 million for county nurse home visits to parents with children under 24
months of age living at 31% of the federal poverty level. NOTE: So, a $100 mil-
lion dollar nurse comes to visit a CalWORKs mom living in deep poverty with a
newborn, who has no money for diapers and no money to buy formula. How can
the nurse help the mom? This may make sense once the families are not living in
deep poverty. Would this mean more babies in foster care?
$3.7 million to interface OCAT with SAWS for 2017-2018
$55 million CalWORKs COLA & $45 million SSI COLA effective
