PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
What is Visible Learning?Visible Learning originated from Professor John Hattie’s research, based on millions of students and represented the largest meta-analysis and synthesis of what improves student learning outcomes. The areas covered in his research looked at factors such as: home, school, teacher, student, curriculum and teaching strategies. From these areas, he ranked 138 influences on student learning outcomes from very positive effects to very negative effects.
Hattie found that the average effect was 0.4 and used this as a way of judging what factors works best. From the 138 influences, it was found that the quality of teaching and the specific teaching strategies used, made a significant difference to the student learning outcomes compared to all other factors. Hattie stressed the importance of teachers being evaluators of their own practice, and knowing their impact upon student learning.
Some of the major contributing factors to improve students performance include, High expectations, Student/Teacher relations, clarifying the learning (Learning Goals), home environment and Direct instruction. At Gulgong we will be focusing on high expectations and learning goals to help improve student learning and results.

Breakfast club a roaring success. Today was the first day of our breakfast club and it was a big hit with the students. We had more than 120 students make use of the club and a big thanks to Lorraine Richards and Lucinda Stephenson who looked after the breakfast club this morning. Our ANZAC celebration with the high school last week was a sombre occasion and a way for our students to remember the sacrifices of our armed service men and women. The ceremony was organised by the high school and our captains Max Hamson and Sigrid Germon spoke extremely well. The year 6 leaders looked smart in their formal uniforms with blazers.
School Photo Day. Please remember that Wednesday is photo day for our students and we would like to see them wearing full winter school uniform.

Wow! Term 2 already!
Term one saw many highlights, Senior Citizen’s “Jailhouse Rock” performance, Easter fun day, swimming carnival, snake show and swimming for sport.
We have another busy term ahead with gymnastics, Red Hill excursion, cross country and our Henry Lawson celebrations all to look forward to.
This term in Literacy we are focusing on fact or fiction and in Mathematics in the next few weeks we are focusing on skip counting forwards and backwards by 2’s, 3’s and 5’s and 10’s on and off the decade.
Library will be on Thursdays with Ms Hawkins this term.
This term Stage 1 have been given the opportunity to participate in gymnastic lessons for Sport.
Last Wednesday 2 Blue had their first lesson and had a great time balancing on the beam, jumping on the mini trampoline and rolling on the mats.
Sasha from Mudgee Gymnastics will be back most Wednesdays this term and plans to bring some new equipment for us to try.
What has 2 Blue been up
Last week 2 Blue were lucky to have a visit from Jake’s Mum and his new baby rabbits.
Jake introduced his bunnies to class and allowed the class a chance hold and pat the bunnies.
We then decided we would all write
ourown letter home to try and
convince our parents/guardians to buy
us our own rabbit.
This is a letter Haylee
wrote to her dad.
Term 2, has seen the introduction of
STEM (Science, technology, engineering and Mathematics) into 2 blue’s timetable. STEM learning requires critical thinking. This week the task was to make the longest paper chain with only one piece of coloured A4 paper, one pair of scissors and one glue stick.
Students were split into groups and given 30 minutes to complete the task. The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience and as seen in the picture to the left the results varied.
