Keep a watch on our school these holidays
Parents and students can help take care of our school by reporting any suspicious after-hours activity to School
Watch on 13 17 88. By keeping an eye out we can work together to create a safer school community and help to
reduce vandalism, theft and arson in our school. If you see something suspicious, plese don't intervene. Call the
School Watch number and let the local police or State Government Protective Security Service deal with the
matter.
This September holidays, Campbell Johnston (year 5) will be playing in a soccer team called Northern Thunder
in the Gold Coast Youth Cup Competition. This competition includes teams from all over Australia and New
Zealand. All the best Campbell!
As this is the last Newsletter before the holidays, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and
happy holidays. As Monday, 6th October is a public holiday, we will see everyone back at school on Tuesday,
7th October to commence a busy Term 4.

Curriculum Update
HOMEWORK
Term 4 Week 1-5 homework will come home on the first day of Term 4 Tuesday 7th October and will also be
available on the school website for you to download.
Term 3 homework is due this Friday 19th August as per the school website.
You can download a copy of the homework sheet from our school website homework tab.
Please be aware that although homework is not compulsory
it is imperative that children read every night to ensure success with reading
There will be minor changes occurring to the homework sheet for next term based on feedback from staff and
parents. We appreciate your patience and support during this new approach to homework.
SCHOOL WEBSITE UPDATES
Curriculum – Teaching and Learning – Reading and Spelling tab
Powerpoints have been uploaded to help you work with your children on LEM Phonics and assist in your
understanding of our school phonics program. These documents are locked for copyright reasons however the
password for our school community to use is - cranbrook
Term 4 Assessment tasks are now available for you to request.
You can now request your child’s assessment tasks for the term to support them at home. The purpose of this is
not to have your child memorise the test (as this would give a false indication of their understanding) but to allow
you to complete similar problems at home to reinforce their learning. Please click Request Assessment Tasks to
access this option.
You can now view when your child’s assessment tasks are due for Unit 3 & 6 for all subjects. Download the
relevant year level from the Testing and Assessment Term 3 tab for relevant information.
Please remember the school website is one of our major communication tools we are using to encourage
community involvement at Cranbrook State School.
