Internal Assessment:

Internal Assessment is done each year for Taught Courses, Practicum and Teaching Practice with weightage of Marks 175, 625 and 60 respectively.

Panel of Examiners for Internal Examination is prepared at SCERT.

The trainees undergo teaching practice in primary schools which is supervised by guide teachers and faculty members of teacher education institution. The trainees are assigned grades as given below.

External Examination is conducted every year. The Directorate of Government Examination conducts the External Examination. Each theory paper carries 100 marks and 25 marks internal. The successful candidates who score a minimum of 50% in each paper are awarded with Diploma certificates.

The Director, Joint Directors periodically visit DIETs and interact with the principals and faculty members to review activities of DIETs. The faculty members of SCERT periodically visit schools and DIETs to provide onsite support to teachers and teacher educators. Pre-service: Teacher Education

Pre-service Teacher Education at Diploma level is one of the foci of SCERT in Tamil Nadu. It develops and renews curriculum for Diploma in Elementary Education. Source books are also prepared whenever curriculum and syllabus are revised. Pre-service Teacher Education has a holistic approach in integrating theory and practice through school experience.

Admission to the First Year Diploma in Elementary Education Course:

Method of Selection and Admission:

According to the marks obtained in the Higher Secondary Examination and the adhering to the reservation policy of the State, admission is done.

Admission to the first year Diploma in Elementary Education is made by the selection committee constituted by the Government through online Single Window System counseling.

The applicants are ranked based on the marks obtained in the Higher Secondary Examination following the rule of reservation and other Government norms now in vogue. The merit list is hosted on the website for the convenience of the applicants well in advance. The allotment of candidates in each of the institutions is made through Single Window System as per the choice of the candidates during the time of counseling.

Curriculum and Syllabus for Diploma in Teacher Education Programme in Tamil Nadu:

In the light of NCF 2005, the Government of Tamil Nadu revised the curriculum and syllabus of teacher Education in 2008. Duration of the course is two academic years with 220 working days, each with 1100 hours in a year.

The trainees undergo observation, teaching practice in primary schools. They undertake various assignments under the guidance of the faculty members of teacher education institutions. They go for Field trips organized by the institutes to have experienced learning.
