To do this, we’ll be blessing symbols of vocation (like a therapist's notepad, or a new parent's baby sling, or a teacher's syllabus). If you didn’t get a chance to bring a symbol of your work, take a moment to write a word on a notecard provided. Before the assembly is dismissed, we will pray over these objects to bless your work in the world. Literary Salon on Saturday, September 17 at 6:30 to 9 p.m. If you find yourself looking for the right words to say, maybe you’re not looking in the right place. So says Robin Jones, who thinks you’ll find all the right words at a Literary Salon here on September 17. The event will feature readings from St. Paul’s authors, including poets, graphic novelists, “a couple of the other kinda” novelists, and others. Jim Jones will also be reading from his latest work on the Beat Movement, and the evening will also include music and visual arts. Food will be potluck style, and there’s no admission charge. For more information, write to Robin at [email protected]. Choristers Rehearsals Resume St. Paul's Choristers, our children's choir, will resume rehearsal on Sunday, September 18 at 10:20. The singers will learn the basic techniques of singing while building repertoire and having much fun! The Choristers are under the direction of Shekela Wanyama. If your children are interested in joining the group, or might be curious about it, please contact Kela at [email protected]. Morning Prayer Resumes on Tuesdays After a summer hiatus, Morning Prayer has resumed its usual schedule. Join us at 7:30 a.m. each Tuesday morning in All Saints chapel for a contemplative order of morning prayer rite that includes the daily office readings and an ex- tended time of silence for meditation. 2016 End AIDS Walk is almost here; we need your help Saturday, September 24 at Volunteer Park

Seattle’s End AIDS Walk is Saturday, September 24. The End AIDS Walk is an easy 3.1 mile walk around Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill. We will meet on the steps of the Seattle Asian Art Museum around 9:15 a.m. and the walk officially begins at

10:00 a.m. and takes about an hour. We are still looking for walkers and sponsors for the St. Paul’s team. Funds raised will support HIV prevention and care services provided by Lifelong AIDS Alliance to the King County Area. You can register to walk with the St. Paul’s Episcopal team, make a donation to sponsor the team, or learn more about the event at www.EndAIDSWalk.org. If you have any questions, contact this year’s co-captains Jeff and Susanne Hutchinson at [email protected]

Reading the Parish Book Together St. Paul’s parishioners have formed into seven book groups and are reading and discussing the “The Rule of Benedict” by Joan Chittister. The groups are meeting in different neighborhoods throughout the city and decide their own schedule. Interested? Write to [email protected] (Mary Baranowski) or sign up at stpaulseattle.org.

Angelus Marian devotions offered on Sundays at 11:05 and on Wednesday Evenings The Angelus, a liturgy of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, is said twice a week at St. Paul’s: each Sunday before the 11:15 a.m. Mass and again on Wednesdays after Evening Prayer at 5:30 p.m. The name of this devotion comes from the first word of the prayer in Latin: Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae (The Angel of the Lord announced to Mary…). For more about Marian spirituality at St. Paul’s, visit stpaulseattle.org/spirituality/marian/

Underhill House seeks ministers of presence Quiet chapel space on Capitol Hill offers training to new volunteers A quiet place to pause for prayer, Underhill House is open Thursdays, 12-2 p.m. half a block east of Broadway on Republican on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Come discern whether you’d like to greet, listen and pray with our guests. The next training session will be in October (we’ll poll to set a date when most interested people can attend). If you have any questions or would like to sign up, please contact The Rev. Susan Dean at [email protected] by September 19.

Yoga for Everyone: Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Parish Hall

New Hires Meet our new interim Parish Administrator, Jessica Hoekstra. Jessica is a third-year student in the MA in Counseling Psychology program at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. This year, she will also be interning at Seattle Therapy Alliance. She has spent the last few years working for a faith-based community development organization, as program and communication support. She has been a regular

participant in worship at 5 p.m. for the past year and is delighted to be joining the St. Paul's team as interim parish administrator. Jess also loves making things, baking bread, seeing a place for the first time, and reading a long novel. She begins her duties on September 13, and will be in the office Tuesday, 8-noon, Thursday, 8-4, and Friday, 11:30-5:30.

Meet our new Sunday Building Host, Daryl Schlick. Daryl is retired and has been a parishioner at St. Paul’s since 1995. During his time at St. Paul’s, Daryl has served on the Vestry, been Senior Warden for two years, a counter for many years, Treasurer for approximately five years, and co-chair of the Renovation Committee when the nave was renovated. He primarily attends the 9 a.m. Mass, often serving as a greeter. He

is delighted to be the Sunday Building host, connecting with and supporting members of the Parish at all Sunday Masses. In his time away from St. Paul’s, Daryl spends time with Barbara Timms, his wife, who attends the 11;15 Mass, and their wire-haired daschund, Jacob. Daryl is the President of the Board of Directors of their condominium, and races a sailboat with the help of others. Daryl begins his duties today, Sunday, September 4, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Greeter Training on September 10 Are you a Sunday morning greeter or have you thought of becoming one? Greeting is a wonderful way to participate in the Sunday liturgy by providing hospitality to all who come through our doors. Lizann Jones and Mother Sara will be offering a training on September 10 from 10 to 11:30 am. All continuing greeters are strongly encouraged to participate, and this is a perfect opportunity for new greeters to learn the ropes. Just greeter-curious? Come join us to learn more!

Fall Foundations: Finding your way into the Bible September 28, October 5 & 12, 6:30-8:30 pm, in the Parish Hall

When you hear scriptures read in worship, do you wish you knew more about the Bible’s contents and basic storyline? Wondering about the lectionary on Sundays and how our readings are structured seasonally? If so, come join us for this 3-week foundations class taught by David Nienhuis. Dave is Professor of New Testament Studies at Seattle Pacific University and a St. Paul's vestry member. He

helps to train lectors for St. Paul's Sunday services, and loves talking about the Bible.

Rite-13 Liturgy at 10:20 a.m. Next Sunday on the Labyrinth Join us next Sunday, September 11, at 10:20am in the labyrinth for our first Rite of Passage liturgy in celebration of Aidyn Stevens and her transition from childhood to adulthood.
