When Twalumba was born, he was not growing as well as other children his age.

Chantou from CambodiaNow knows how to keep clean and healthy.

Chantou is 11 years old and is studying at school. With your help, CAFOD is helping her community to learn about nutrition, water, hygiene and health. This helps Chantou to stay healthy and reach her potential.

Dennis from ZambiaIs going to school and learning to manage an orchard.

When Dennis was younger, he had to leave home as his family didn’t have enough money to support him. Dennis wanted to continue his education, so he worked hard growing and selling crops. He made enough money to send himself and his brothers and sisters to school.

With your fundraising, CAFOD has supported Dennis’ school as well as an orchard project, where Dennis is learning all about how to manage an orchard. Dennis says: “I have planted bananas and oranges at home because of the orchard here. These are for selling and eating.”

Waed from SyriaCan go to school.

Waed had to leave her home in Syria. She now lives in Jordan. With CAFOD support, she goes to a school for Syrian refugee children. She has English, Arabic and Maths lessons.

Waed says: “I like English. I just want to play.”

Proscovia from UgandaHas clean water.

Two of Proscovia’s sisters had to drop out of school to collect water. The same thing almost happened to her.

Through CAFOD, the borehole/well near her home was fixed, so she no longer has to go far for water. This means can stay clean and stay in school. Proscovia is happy learning with her friends.

(A borehole is similar to deep well, typically drilled by a machine.)

Joseph from UK Is building a brighter world.

Joseph is a member of a CAFOD group in his school. They meet at lunchtime to do different activities to learn about, pray and help other children around the world, who live in poverty.

Joseph and some of his friends planned their own CAFOD fundraiser to raise money to help even more children!

Mary from SyriaIs rebuilding her life in Jordan.

Mary is 7 years old and comes from Syria. She had to leave her home because of the war. Mary now lives in Jordan, where she can go to a puppet class with other refugees, supported by CAFOD.

In the puppet class, the children watch films, make their own puppets and talk about the difficult things they have experienced. In this way they can start to rebuild their lives.

David from BoliviaNow has a wheelchair ramp in his classroom.

Through support from CAFOD, David’s community learned about disability rights. They campaigned for ramps to be installed throughout their town to help people with mobility problems. There are now ramps across the town, including in David’s school.

Maya from NepalHad emergency help after floods.

After bad flooding across South Asia last year, Maya’s family and many others were supported by CAFOD. The families were given cooked meals as well as dried goods, clean drinking water and temporary shelter.

We are going to finish with a prayer, so let’s sit quietly for a minute. Think about the children you have heard about today. Let’s pray together:Loving God,We think of our neighbours, near and far, who live in poverty.We pray we may share generously all you have given us. Help us to work together to build a brighter world, where each of us can become the best person we can be.

Today, we have heard lots of good news stories. But around the world millions (about 783 million) of our sisters and brothers live in extreme poverty (they live on less than £1.50 per day). We cannot give up. You can help change this!
