CABOT UMC NEWS May 5, 2020 “A community of faith striving to be Spirit-filled while experiencing Christ’s limitless transformation through relationships, worship and service.” Re-Opening? You may have heard the Governor in his “COVID-19” daily update say that places of worship can now meet. While this is positive and exciting news, we need to temper it with real world expectations. The “Guidelines” that have been recommended are somewhat restrictive, albeit necessary. We have been anticipating these guidelines but didn’t know what to expect and couldn’t plan accordingly until we knew for sure. Here are some of the guidelines, but not all: 6-foot physical distancing Face coverings worn at all times for anyone over 10 yrs. old No physical contact Eliminate use of items touched by multiple people No classes for youth or childcare Sanitize common areas Given the size of our congregation we would also need to abide by the Large Indoor Venue Directives that are not effective until May 18 th . Here are some of the guidelines, but not all: 6-foot physical distancing Audience of 50 or fewer people Every other row should be unoccupied These guidelines are part of Phase I that will be monitored for two weeks. If there is a “resurgence” the Governor and his team will probably pull back the reigns and enforce stricter guidelines, but if there is no “resurgence” they’ll move on to Phase II which will have less restrictive guidelines. Now, let’s talk about Cabot UMC. I realize everyone is eager to return to their worship service, LifeGroup, Youth group, Sunday School class, nursery or their Bible study, but the current reality is those will not fulfill their designed purpose under the Phase I guidelines. On any given Sunday we have 450-500 in worship and another 300 in small group studies. Under Phase I guidelines trying to manage this volume of people would not only be difficult but probably irresponsible. Nobody wants to get back to corporate worship and study more than I. But I also don’t won’t to be the epicenter of the “resurgence”. Being a large church certainly has its advantages, but as it relates to returning to corporate worship, we have some challenges ahead of us. So, for right now we WILL NOT be returning to church activities. We have a group of volunteers that make “Sunday” happen every week that will be discussing our strategy to move forward, and the Church Council will be consulted before a decision is made concerning our return. Bishop Gary Mueller will also have some input on this issue. Starting Monday, May 11 th , the Church Office will resume normal hours of operation. In the meantime, I hope you will join us on the Cabot United Methodist Church YouTube channel. We will continue to offer this “online” experience even when the decision is made to re-open. Not everyone will feel comfortable getting out in public and we are reaching new people with the tool of technology. Feel free to give us a call with any needs or prayer requests. God Bless, Bro. “A community of faith striving to be Spirit-filled while experiencing Christ’s limitless transformation

through relationships, worship and service.”

Re-Opening? You may have heard the Governor in his “COVID-19” daily update say that places of worship can now meet. While this is positive and exciting news, we need to temper it with real world expectations. The “Guidelines” that have been recommended are somewhat restrictive, albeit necessary. We have been anticipating these guidelines but didn’t know what to expect and couldn’t plan accordingly until we knew for sure. Here are some of the guidelines, but not all:

• 6-foot physical distancing

• Face coverings worn at all times for anyone over 10 yrs. old

• No physical contact

• Eliminate use of items touched by multiple people

• No classes for youth or childcare

• Sanitize common areas Given the size of our congregation we would also need to abide by the Large Indoor Venue Directives that are not effective until May 18th. Here are some of the guidelines, but not all:

• 6-foot physical distancing

• Audience of 50 or fewer people

• Every other row should be unoccupied These guidelines are part of Phase I that will be monitored for two weeks. Under Phase I guidelines trying to manage this volume of people would not only be difficult but probably irresponsible. Nobody wants to get back to corporate worship and study more than I. But I also don’t won’t to be the epicenter of the “resurgence”. Our Current Sermon Series “Moses: Heart of a Leader" Focusing on our quarantined situation isn't helping anyone's sanity so now we're going

to spend some time on something that I hope will help you hit the ground running once you return to your job, your coaching position, your volunteer commitments, your parenting or

the team you serve. Everyone, on some level, is in a leadership position. We're going to spend 6 weeks looking at leadership qualities displayed in the life of Moses and then use them

in our lives to do great things.

Registration for OMP Connect is now open. OMP Connect is a FREE and virtual alternative

program for campers who will complete 4th-12th grades by June 1, 2020.

Campers can join us for a week of fellowship, June 8-12, as we incorporate neighbor care,

worship, construction, and more, all from the safety of your own home!

Our OMP Connect task force is working hard to develop fun, engaging content for virtual camp.

We will have more details on what this group has created in the coming weeks. Until then, be

sure to register for OMP Connect—you don't want to miss out on this!

One important update: we've extended the registration deadline to Monday, May 25. You can

register for OMP Connect on our website, https://ozarkmissionproject.org/. You will need to

register as an individual/household. We will not be registering everyone together as one

church/group.

Sundays are full of Zooming in Children’s Ministries! 4 different Zoom sessions are available each week – ECA (Nursery), Pre-Schoolers, 1st-4th Graders (Rotation),

and Root 56 (5th & 6th Graders). These classes are led by some of our faithful teachers and are enjoyed by children as well as the leaders! It’s not quite the same

as meeting in person, BUT it’s always so good to see many smiling faces! Watch for an email late each week with the Zoom links for these classes. If you are

not receiving these emails, please just let Darlene know! Thank you!

Current 4th-6th Graders! Remember YOU are eligible

to attend OMP Connect this year – and it’s FREE!

Please see details below. Don’t miss the FUN!

How can you help your youth grow spiritually? Right now, I would encourage getting them plugged into youth and helping them set aside time to do their spiritual

disciplines (reading bible, prayer, worship music, etc). Sunday mornings we have LifeGroups going on. We have some special events coming up also! What if your youth

doesn't like Zoom or having to discuss things? That's fine, please contact me and I'll suggest some great individual studies! All the info is below.

Weekly Youth Zoom Meetings – Links are the same every week.

April 27- May 10 Goodie Bag Giveaway I would also be available to drop off a goodie bag for those who do not want to participate in the curb-side challenge but still would like a goodie bag! However many youth who want to sign up for that will be allowed to. Curb Side Challenge Week has been extended to continue this week! Throughout this week and next, I'm going to do drive by Curb Games. I'll remain on the road and the youth on their front porches. We will have challenges like Giant Tic Tac Toe on a dry erase board, quizzes to test your mental capacity, brain games, and some other activities! There are a few more spots for youth to sign up for the Curb Side Challenge Games! Anyone can sign up for the Goodie Bag! All of this would be done within the social distancing guidelines.
