INRODUCTIONELECON cable Reeling Drums are provided with a Contorq Drive Units. It consists gearded motor, contorq unit, gearbox, etc. The ELECON contorq reeling system has been developed to provide a low cost, no maintenance simplesolution to your cable and hose reeling drums.

Contorq Cable Reeling Drums are simple in construction and use standard AC, DC, air or hydraulic motor as primemover. It can also be fifted iwth a flame proof or marine specification motor. These units are modular in constructionwhich use common components among various models. The design is such that it reduces tension in the reeled cablecompared with other forms of drive. If has a totally enclosed transmission on most drives and go with fully sealedbearings. Purged labyrinth seals can be provided on request, it can replace other forms of cable reeling drives withminimum modifications. Due to all these advantage Controrq Cable Reeling Drum is an optimal solution as long aseconomy and protection of cable are concerned.

All contorq drive units use as the slipping interface a unique oil immersed and cooled friction medium and are rated forcontinous reeling duty. Contorq drive units are capable of being adjusted from minimum to maximum torque value withrelative ease. so, providing site adjustments as a feature in the event of increased cable weight and diameter or othervariations in machine performance. The slipping interface of contorq unit is easily removable without disturbing either theslipings or the cable/hose.

The internal design of cotorq drive unit circulates the lubricant with such a beneficial effect on thermal properties that noexternal cooling fan is required.

The lubricant is a synthesised hydro-carbon type, giving the advantages of low co-efficient of friction, extended tem-perature range of -40 Celsius to +160 Celsius, and extermely long life. Four sizes of drive units are available from stockcomponents, 20, 40,60 and 80. Varying in size from 200 to 1,000 watts.

Nineteen combinations of drive units can be used to offer solutions to the more demanding requirements of todaysmaterial handling plant. deferent sizes of contorq units are CT - 20, CT - 40, CT - 60 an d CT - 80.

TYPE : Cable Reeling Drum is used on the mobile equipments for the power supply. Cable Reeling Drums are followingtypes based on the cable laying on drum.

RANDOM LAY RWhile selecting random lay reel care should be takenparticularly with reference to cable de-rating factors.

MONOSOPIRAL LAY MThis type of reel offers controlled reeling of all types ofcable and is recommended for high speeds and accel-erations.

Page 3: Cable Reeling Drum

3/2 LAY SThe 3/2 layering method is a compromise betweenMonosprial and Random lay reels and exploits a naturalphenomenon of cable layering which allows a controlledformat without separate layering mechanism.

Although power cables have to de-rated more than formonosprial lay, this format offers a smaller dimensionedreel and is especially usefull for control reels where currentde-rating is not a problem. An additional advantage is thatdue to reduced ineritias, a smaller drive unit may beemployed.

Generally the most economical reeling solution.

PARALLEL LAY PThe parallel reel offers the best machanical solution interms of low cable tension althought the construction isgenerally more expensive than radial reels.

This type of reel usually employed for longer cable lengths, where reel inertia could be a problem. There is virtuallyno limit to the length of cable that can be recovered onthe parellel lay reel. Contorq reels have enclosed chaindriven layering mechanism which is coal and iron aretolerant and has been specifically designed for theseindustries. The reel will accommodate 1, 2 or 3 layer ofcable of hose.

DRUM BODY : Drum body is fabricated from the hollow section.

DRIVE UNIT : Drive unit consists of geared motor, contorq unit, special worm gear box etc. contorq unit is ftted on inputshaft of the gear box. Slipring assly. is fitted on other end of the drum shaft.

LIMIT SWITCHES : Overtension, undertension. Limit switches are provided to protect the cable.

SELECTION : We have developed a sophisticated computer programme for the design of driven reels and this is used forall selections. The programme checks the tension at various points during the machines travel and ensure that, at notime will over tensioning occur. By computing different combinations of drive ratios and reel diameters, coupled withinherent of the contorq reeling system. The most efficient and econimic solution is obtained.FOR THE PROPER SELECTION OF CABLE REELING DRUM FOLLOWING DATA ARE REQUIRED :

1. MACHINE DESCRIPTION. 2. TRAVEL LENGTH OF MACHINE. 3. LOCATION OF FEED.

(i.e. At the centre OR at the end) 4. TRAVEL SPEED OF MACHINE. (A) OPERATIONAL. (B) IDLE. 5. CABLE DETAILS: (A) CABLE DIAMETER. (B) CABLE WEIGHT Kg/m. (C) BENDING RADIOUS. (D) SAFE PULLING TENSION. (E)LENGTH OF CABLE ON THE DRUM. (F) CABLE SIZE.

1. Contorq drive unit is specifically designed for cablereeling drum. It is designed to slip when sepcific torquesetting is exceeded. Excess or over tension is notpossible from drive unit.2. Contorq drive unit is completely mechanicalyadjustable from zero to the torque rating required. Variblemachine speed is accomdated through slipping speed atthe discface without the neccessity of additional controls.3. The contorq drive unit do not require resistance boxes.4. Power requirement with contorq unit is less ascompared to torque motor, so it is economical to use.5. As variety of contorq unit is only four and genrally 60BST are used. So, that for project common spares canbe used.

Torque motor is extablished drive form adapted for reeling

purpose. Additional tension is applied to the cable whilepassing over centre point.

Torque motor drive once selected can only be adjustedby variation of the resistance banks. Motor performancesis adversely affected by an increase in the resistance inexcess of 30%.

Resistance boxes are required for the torque motor andare to be located near the torque motor.

Power reuirement with torque motor is high as comparedto contorq drive unit. So, it is uneconomical.

Different torque motor require for different reelerapplication. So that variety of spares require to keep instock.

ADVANTAGES OF THE CONTORQ DRIVE UNIT OVER TORQUE MOTOR
