Type: Parallel Travelling with machine Car and Counter CarriageLifting capacity 28 t, Span 740 m In June 2000, the company ERG Insaat Ticaret veSanayi A.S., Turkey signed a contract withThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik for the supply, erection

supervision and commissioning of three cablecranes for the construction of the Deriner dam. Theproject is located in the north east of Turkey, to thesouth of the town of Artvin, on the Coruh river. Thedam will be constructed in a deep, clearly defined V-shaped valley, both flanks reaching up to an eleva-tion of more than 1,000 m above sea level. Thegorge walls are steep and have an average slope of 45°.

1. Cable cranes over the river valley

With the help of the three cable cranes, approx.3,500,000 m³ of concrete for the arch dam andappurtenant structure will be built into the dam. Tothis effect, the three cable cranes, each with a

carrying capacity of 28 tons, with a span of 740 mand a hoisting height of 280 m will be equipped witha target control loop and with an automatic pendu-lum control system.

2 Machine car of the parallel travelling cranes 

Three cable cranes of parallel travelling type havebeen chosen by the construction company to servethe whole dam area during the concreting, which is

one of the more than 10 different designs of TKF for cable cranes, but the most suitable design for thespecific terrain of the dam site.

3. Counter carriage of low mast design 

The cable cranes are not only installed for transpor-tation of concrete from the batching plant to theconcreting position, they can also be used for trans-port of construction machines or other single loads.For this purpose a special design has been adoptedto link-up two cranes for a tandem operation, whichenables lifting of single loads up to 56 tons. Theelectrical and control system represents the newestdevelopment of technology for hoisting appliances.Both hoisting winch with rope drum and trolley

traversing gear with drive pulley are fitted with DCdrives which make the variable speed hoisting/lowering with full, partial or non-load possible toachieve a flexible, safe and effective performance of the concrete transport.

4. Rope winch with DC drive of the hoisting gear 

The specially designed target control loop andautomatic pendulum control system enable thecable cranes to approach the pre-determined pointsof destination (concrete charging ramp or concretingpoints) automatically and with pin-point precision.
