Fire Ratings

Fire ratings provide a means of measuring the effectiveness of an extinguisher in termsof the maximum size of fire that can be extinguished.

Class A rating is related to a wooden crib fire 0.5m wide x 0.56m high x length. Therating figure is ten times the length in metres, eg. 13A uses a crib 1.3 metres long.

Class B is related to fire surface area and the rating figure to the quantity of flammableliquid in a ratio of 1/3 water, 2/3 fuel that can be extinguished in a circular tray.

Class F relates to cooking oil and cooking fat fires. There are 4 benchmark tests using5, 15, 25 and 75 litres of sunflower oil. The oil is heated to auto-ignition and allowed topre burn for 2 minutes. Fire is extinguished and no re-ignition shall occur within 10minutes of extinguishing the fire.

The EP9M is a high performance Monnex powder extinguisher suitable mainly forClass B risks.

The EP9M has a fire rating of 233B and is suitable for high risk areas such as flammableliquid or chemical stores and has a 15 bar working pressure for optimum performance.

Pyromet

The Pyromet powder extinguisher is designed to be highly effective against metal fires(Class D). Examples of such metal fires include lithium, sodium, magnesium andaluminium when in the form of powder or swarf.

The unique Pyromet applicator enables the fire fighting powder to be applied in such away as to smother the burning material and kill the flames. Not suitable for use on liveelectrical fires.

SILICONE RUBBER COATEDChubb Fire blankets are made from the highest quality glass fibre material which iscarefully coated with silicone rubber. Fats and oils will not soak through the blanket soeliminating the danger of vapour re-ignition.

STRONG CONTAINERSThe PB range containers are manufactured from impact resistant PVC to withstand theday to day knocks of a busy environment. The design allows for immediate access tothe blanket in the event of an emergency.

THREE SIZES AVAILABLEThe PB range is available in three sizes: 1m x 1m for domestic applications; 1.2m x1.2m for light industrial risks; 1.8m x 1.2m for industrial and larger commercialkitchens. All three sizes come complete with fixings.

FULL INSTRUCTIONSThe blanket comes with full folding instructions. To replace simply follow thediagrams printed on the back of the container.

PERSONAL PROTECTIONThe blanket may be used to wrap around a person whose clothing is alight, to smotherthe flames. It should not be removed until medical help arrives.

ONLY SUITABLE FORWrapping/smothering people and small contained fires (frying pan/chip pan), otherwiseuse a wet chemical extinguisher.

The powders recommended for use with this unit are Chubb Fire GP (general purposeClass A, B & C) and Monnex (Class B & C ). These powders are capable of dealing withClass B flammable liquid fires and fires involving flammable gases such as methane,LPG etc. (Class C fires). GP can also deal with Class A fires involving carbonaceousmaterials such as wood and paper.

All powders listed can be applied to electrical fires.

These extinguishers have seamless steel CO2 cylinders conforming to BS 5045 Part 1,clamped to two wheeled trolley frames which are provided with stowage for the hoseand applicator.

All CO2 cylinders are provided with a screw-down valve, safety pin and safety-bursting disc.The standard applicator is a 470mm long non-conducting horn with integral handle.A discharge valve is provided.

A squeeze grip control is supplied with the applicator to allow full control of the discharge.
