Workshops for Ages 0 - 5Boogie Babiesfor ages 0 - 2

This fun-filled session for the very young and their carers explores a different story every week with music, dance, drama and movement. Children will have the chance to develop their social and motor skills and play together.Thursday 9:30am - 10:15am

Little Imaginationsfor ages 2 - 4

These sessions are aimed especially at pre-schoolers, to invite them to take their first steps towards creating theatre in a fun-filled hour of creativity. Led by an expe-rienced pre-school drama specialist, the children will use music and song, story-tell-ing, role-play, craft and circus skills to explore the world of theatre and let their little imaginations run wild.Tuesday 1:30pm - 2:30pm Thursday 10:30am - 11:30amTu

Drama for Receptionfor ages 4 & 5

These sessions are an introduction to drama using story-telling and imaginary play. Supported by the workshop leader, children will develop their drama skills and create theatre using props, costume and their imaginations, building confidence along the way.Tuesday 4pm - 5pm

Dance for Receptionfor ages 4 & 5

A fast-paced hour of fun, learning and developing skills in a variety of different dance styles, including street dance, contemporary dance, musical theatre and everything in between! Children will enjoy the movement and music and gain confidence through this dance class.Thursday 4pm - 5pm

Beginners & JuniorsDrama for Beginnersfor school years 1, 2 & 3

The emphasis is on fun in these workshops and children will use games and storytelling to build confidence and learn the basics of theatre and performance. Each term ends with a sharing event to show friends and family what the group has been working on.Tuesday 5pm - 6pmThursday 4pm - 5pm

Dance for Beginnersfor school years 1, 2 & 3

This fun-filled session explores a wide variety of dance styles, and youngsters build confidence learning through dance. There is a sharing event at the end of term for friends and family to see the children’s dance performances.Thursday 5pm - 6pm

Junior Dramafor school years 4, 5 & 6

Juniors take an imaginative approach to learning, acting, movement and performance, building confidence and having fun in the process. Juniors have the opportunity to take part in at least two shows every year.Tuesday 6:30pm - 7:30pmThursday 5pm - 6pm

Wednesday 5pm - 6pm Saturday 11:30am - 12:30pm

Junior Dancefor school years 4, 5 & 6

This fast paced session explores many styles of dance and is for youngsters who are passionate and excited about dance at any level. Participants also get the chance to choreograph a dance and perform it for friends and family at the sharing event at the end of term.Thursday 6pm - 7pm

Seniors & Young ActorsSenior Dramafor school years 7, 8 & 9

Senior Drama invites young people to develop their own style and use different theatre techniques to create work. Developing skills in character, voice and improvisation, young people will create exciting theatre and grow in confidence as performers.Wednesday 6pm - 7:30pmSaturday 1pm - 2:30pm

Senior Dancefor school years 7-11 and young people aged 16-25

A dynamic and challenging class for those who wish to develop their dance skills or who have never danced before, with the chance to try styles as diverse as street dance, contemporary, classical and even musical theatre.Thursday 7:30pm - 8:30pm

BYT Young Actorsfor school years 10 & 11 and ages 16-25

This workshop will build the skills of our young actors so they are able to develop into confident performers who understand and can use their stage skills to create work. They will follow a programme of activity that they develop with the workshop leader which may include developing a piece of theatre, or one off sessions in specific styles.Monday 7:30pm - 9:30pm Thursday 7:30pm - 9:30pm

BYT Young Actors’ Rep Companyfor school years 10 & 11 and ages 16-25

By audition only. The BYT Rep Company is for aspiring actors, directors, writers & young people interested in backstage & technical theatre. This year long programme culminates in taking a piece of theatre to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The next BYT Young Actors’ Rep Company audition will be in September 2014.Tuesday 7:30pm - 9:30pm

More Core WorkshopsAll The World’s A Stagefor school years 8-11 & young people aged 16-25

Join Philip Hindle to delve into the world of Classical theatre. This is an introductory course aimed at those who wish to dip their toes into the classics or for people who want to remind themselves of some of the greats of theatre.Monday 6pm - 7:30pm

Indrafor school years 7-11 and ages 16-25

Indra is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a theatre group which is passionate about the arts and wants to make a difference to society. Past Indra projects have involved performing at The Royal Exchange, travelling to Derry to present at the Indra World Congress and performing to a group of young people from Palestine.Tuesday 6pm - 7:30pm

Connect SessionsJunior Connect for ages 5-11, Senior Connect for ages 12-25

These sessions are for young people with disabilities and learning difficulties. The groups will work with two professional practitioners to create a performance piece combining movement, drama, voice, music & lighting.Junior Connect Wednesday 6pm - 7pmSenior Connect Wednesday 7pm - 8pm

Audition Coachingfor school years 7-11 & young people aged 16-25

This one-to-one session with Philip Hindle, an expert in theatre practice, can help you prepare for big auditions with advice on audition speeches and delivery to bring your monologue to the highest standard. The session is FREE but must be booked in advance.Various dates available

Behind The ScenesFilm Making Workshopfor school years 7-11 & young people aged 16-25

Participants will devise the plot, write the script, film it, star in it and then edit the film. At the end of term the film will be screened for family and friends and could be entered into various young people’s film festivals. Places are limited to ten people.Monday 6pm - 7:30pm

Writing For Theatre Workshopfor school years 7-11 & young people aged 16-25

Workshops will include an exploration of plot, story, conflict, character and dialogue, amongst other things. Participants will develop a piece for script in hand performances at the sharing event at the end of term. Places are limited to ten people.Tuesday 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Theatre Make Up Workshopfor school years 7-11 & young people aged 16-25

This series of workshops will give you the skills to create cuts and bruises and ageing effects, as well as design and create ‘character’ make-up. Places are limited to six people.Wednesday 6pm - 7pm

Technical Theatre Workshopfor school years 7-11 & young people aged 16-25

These workshops focus on the different skills of technical theatre, such as lighting, sound, projection and stage management. Participants will have the opportunity to work practically with technical equipment and be part of the BYT technical team for productions. Places are limited to six people.Wednesday 7pm - 8pm

Young people from BYT & surrounding schools have worked together in partnership with the Ribble Rivers Trust & the Heritage Lottery Fund to create a giant piece of outdoor theatre to celebrate Lancashire’s waterways.Tickets: FREE

Charlie & The Chocolate Factory Auditionsfor school years 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6

Millions Auditionsfor school years 7-11 & young people aged 16-25

Auditions on Wednesday 30th April 2014, 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Millions follows the highly entertaining adventures of two brothers who discover an enormous bag of money. They decide there’s only one thing to do - spend it like there’s no tomorrow! But how can two boys hope to spend a quarter of a million quid in a week?Please note performances will take place on Friday 25th & Saturday 26th July 2014

Monday 4th - Friday 8th August 2014 from 10am - 4pm each day

Children will work with a professional director to learn new drama skills, be creative and have fun. They will use drama, movement and music to bring their creative stories to life. During the week they will create a short sharing to perform for friends and family on Friday 8th August 2014 at 6pm.Cost £45 for the week. Maximum of 15 children. Payment required on booking.Up to 3 bursaries (free places) available.

Junior Play in a Weekfor school years 4, 5 & 6

Monday 11th August - Friday 15th August 2014 from 10am - 4pm each day

Children will work with a professional director to create their own piece of theatre. Throughout the week they will learn new drama skills, develop confidence and have fun. They will perform their piece for friends and family on Friday 15th August 2014 at 6pm.Cost £45 for the week. Maximum of 25 children. Payment required on booking.Up to 5 bursaries (free places) available.

Senior Play in a Weekfor school years 7-11 and young people aged 16-25

Monday 18th August - Friday 22nd August 2014 from 10am - 4pm each day

Young people will work with a professional director to create a piece of theatre – this will include learning a range of acting and performance skills. The week will culminate in a performance at Burnley Youth Theatre on Friday 22nd August 2014 at 6pm.Cost £45 for the week. Maximum of 25 young people. Payment required on booking.Up to 5 bursaries (free places) available.

How Much Does It Cost?Basic Membership Donation - £3 per week or £30 per term provides the opportunity for a young person to take part in one workshop per week.Enhanced Membership Donation - £50 per term provides the opportunity for a young person to take part in multiple workshops per week.Annual Membership Donation – £120 provides the opportunity for a young person to take part in multiple workshops throughout the year (excluding holiday activities).Family discounts – There is a discount of 50p or £5 per term on the basic membership donations for each additional member coming from the same household.We welcome people from all parts of the community regardless of their ability to pay membership donations. If you are unable to make membership donations please ensure you tick the relevant box on the membership donation form.

Inclusive BYTBurnley Youth Theatre is fully inclusive and we want to encourage any young person with a disability or learning difficulty or even those who may just need some extra support to participate fully in our youth theatre. We have our Connect sessions on Wednesday evenings which are specifically for young people with a disability or learning difficulty (see More Core Workshops) and  all Thursday night drama sessions are supported by two members of staff and volunteers to enable young people who need additional support to be a part of Burnley Youth Theatre in an inclusive session.

Youth BoardIf you are interested in representing your fellow participants, helping to organise events, supporting staff and volunteers and representing the organisation then you could become a member of the Youth Board. The Youth Board meet every Wednesday in term time 5pm – 6pm. Email [email protected] for more details.

We are committed to ensuring all children and young people have access to the arts.Give Regularly: For some children and young people, coming to BYT is impossible because of lack of transport, financial difficulties or lack of support. It costs just £20 a month to enable one child to reach us who otherwise would not be able to. You can make a regular monthly donation of any amount and know that it changes the life chances of a child or young person. You can sign up to our regular giving scheme by asking any member of staff for a form. And in return we will keep you informed about the impact of our work.Make a one off donation: A one off donation of any size makes a massive difference to BYT. It means we can support young people to do extraordinary things and learn important life skills: team work, communication skills, self-confidence. Young people who work with BYT go on to do extraordinary things. You can donate online, by post or when you come to the youth theatre. Friends: For gifts of £1000 or upwards you can become more closely involved in our work, including participation in friends’ events. Legacies: Legacies are precious.
