1984-1988

I was in High School at this time I taught at that level as a team members and eventually Captain of the Swim team, disciplines that I taught are:

Physical Fitness workouts: as a member of the Track and Swim teams I put it upon myself to learn the best and most efficient workout to achieve best results. In accomplishing that task I was given the additional duty by my HS coaches with my input on the development of the workout plans for the team.

1989-1993

I worked at the YMCA as a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor for Children, Teenagers and Adults. I taught beginning to advance swimming techniques and different workout plans. Additionally I worked with kids during their Birthday parties; I had to develop a class for that particular child per the parents request within the limits of the YMCA.

I started Tae kwon Do and quickly became an assistant Instructor for new students both children and Adults.

In The Army in Basic training I was instructed to teach Hand-to-Hand, in my Initial Advanced training my class was so proficient we were tasked with making a training video on our equipment for follow-on classes to emulate. In my National Guard unit despite my rank I was given the responsibility to plan the workout session for the scheduled drill, because of my physical fitness level.

1993-1995

I was in the Active Duty Army and deployed twice but in-between deployments and during deployments I looked for opportunities to train Soldiers on Soldiering tasks such as: Map Reading, Movement from one point to another without using a map, Basic First Aid, Field Sanitation and Self Defense. I served as a Lifeguard in Somalia on the Indian Ocean until it was determined that there were too many sharks to swim in the water. During this time until I retired I have been qualified to wear the Army Physical Fitness Patch, allowing me to teach physical fitness strategies throughout my career.

1995-1999

I transferred to another unit I quickly became a sought after Soldier to teach Sergeants time training, because of my deployments I was more experienced than most of those appointed over me. I taught subjects such as: Physical Fitness training techniques, Field preparation, Field safety concerns, field sanitation, basic First Aid, Self Defense and Map Reading.

I started Kickboxing and quickly became the School class Instructor and took the place of the main Instructor.

1999-2004

I left the Army and joined the National Guard, because of my extensive knowledge of military operations from a Soldiers point of view I became an Instructor for the unit in all Soldier tasks.

I started working with my Son in the Cub Scouts were he got every Cub Scout award and I was able to help teach his troop Basic First Aid, Drill and Ceremony, Cadence calling, Field survival, Safety swimming, Camping techniques and Field sanitation.

My daughter was in the Civil Air Patrol I was an honorary trainer and I trainer her Flight in Basic Aid, Drill and Ceremony, Military Customs and Courtesies and uniform wear and appearance.

In 2002 I joined the Army Reserves to become a Drill Sergeant as a Drill Sergeant I received Honor Graduate. The tasks I taught as a Drill Sergeant are but not limited to the following: Drill and Ceremony, Military History, Customs and Courtesies, both Basic and Advanced Rifle Marksmanship, Basic medical tasks including MEDEVAC/CASEVAC skills, US Army Combatives Level 1, Risk Assessment, Risk Mitigation, Operations Orders, Military Thinking classes, Field Sanitation, Road Marching, Weapons Range Operations, Obstacle and Confidence courses, Military Terminology, Field Survival, Physical Fitness, Communication and Military Radio Operations, Equal Opportunity, Sexual Harassment, Bullying, Intimidation, Hazing, Uniform Wear and Appearance, Cohesion, Teamwork, Cadence both marching and running, Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services and Counseling both Disciplinary and positive. I inculcated the Army Values of Honor, Selfless Service, Integrity, Personal Courage, Duty, Respect and Loyalty.

2004-2009

I mobilized to train Soldiers to go to Iraq my station was to teach Basic First Aid.

I mobilized again and my duties were to teach Static Entry Control Point operations and Set-up Tear down hasty Checkpoint Operations for deploying Soldiers.

I mobilized as a Drill Sergeant I trained in the preceding Drill Sergeant Tasks.

I mobilized as a Parachute Rigger While I did that I was able to attend the Special Forces Jumpmaster course which qualified me to tach currency classes for Paratroopers and Jumpmasters. I also taught various Combat Lifesaver courses as well as Self Defense classes. I was qualified and taught American Heart Association sanctioned CPR/AED/BLS First Aid. Additionally I taught and certified Service Members in Combat Water Survival levels 1, 2 and 3. I was in a group of Service Members that rotated Physical Fitness training we taught each other, our group spanned Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines.

I started Japanese Jujitsu shortly I became the assistant instructor the school closed upon my Sensis death.

I worked with 20 Foreign national countries representatives/Soldiers to do cross-country training during Airborne Operations and weapons qualification events.

2009-2010

I mobilized with another unit where I took and more leadership role as the First Sergeant, but I still maintained my training events just on a smaller level. I went to US Army Combatives School for LVLs 2-3 now I could certify LVL 1. I was able to facilitate two classes during this timeframe. I also taught a Combat Lifesaver class and maintained my Jumpmaster status. My Soldiers were my main focus and ensuring that they were current and qualified on all of the tasks that they needed to be as well as extra courses that either I or other Service Members could certify them in such as Search Evade and Rescue level 1. They were able to do very good in many events and schools, by becoming Honor graduates and finishing very high in different competitions. I trained and licensed my Soldiers on the available Army vehicles.

A First Sergeant Duties include but are not limited to: Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Commander for all enlisted issues and concerns. He is the Senior Trainer, Mentor, Disciplinarian, and Counselor. He has to provide the Soldiers with a direction and purpose and Commanders intent that pertains to the mission. He is the go between family members and military duties all Soldier issues come across his desk such as credit issues, marital issues or legal issues as it relates to the military duty for the Soldier. He has to provide the Beans, Bullets and Barracks for the Soldiers.

2010

I transferred units and was prepping a unit to go to Iraq. Serving as the Senior Enlisted Advisor I trained the Soldiers prior to leaving, however the big Army decided to take us off of the deployment and to extend the current unit just a few months as the Iraq mission was coming to a close.

2010-2012

I mobilized and served as an Operations NCO my duties included running the Operations for a deployed truck company. I took a portion of the company to the National Training Center for equipment familiarization prior to deployment acting as the Senior NCO/1SG.

While in Iraq I trained a Soldier in Army Combatives for a Soldier of the Month competition in which he ended up winning. I also taught and certified some Soldiers in Combat Lifesaver techniques prior to deployment.

2012-2013

I again mobilized and served as a First Sergeant for Truck Company to go to Afghanistan. The Commander and I added an additional training time to our already scheduled training to further the cohesion between the Soldiers, because they were a mishmash of Soldier from over 10 different units. During that training I taught a Combat Lifesaver class and Combat Water Survival class. During the deployment I taught and certified a group of Soldiers in Army Combatives LVL 1.

2013-2016

I currently serve as a First Sergeant for a Drill Sergeant Company so I am in charge of ensuring that the training the Soldiers need and training plans are accomplished. I have gone to three Annual Trainings twice serving as a First Sergeant for a Basic Trainings company and my last one I was handpicked by the battalion Command Sergeants major to take all of the Battalions Drill Sergeant Candidates and prep them for the US Army Drill Sergeant Academy, every Solder that I and my crew trained have graduated the Drill Sergeant Academy. I have also taught Combat Water Survival to my Soldiers.

I am currently working with the local JROTC schools wherever I can help out to gain experience to become part of the JROTC Corps.

I am also volunteering for Honor Guard detail for local Vets that have died.

I have been awarded the following for ONLY training: (This does not include my Leadership Awards or positional achievements)

15 Coins from different countries as well as different services

3 Army Achievement Medals

1 Joint Achievement Medal

1 Joint Commendation Medal

20 Certificates of Achievement/Appreciation/Qualification

3 Civilian Organization special Honors

2 Instructional Schools that gave me an Army sanctioned Additional Skill Identifier

5 positions I have held strictly as a competent Instructor

On JAN 2016 I started at ST Leo University enroute to achieving my degree in Education with a specialization in Social Sciences. I will Graduate Spring of 2018.

I have instructed/taught conservatively over 13,500 people from Privates to Generals and from children to middle aged adults’ civilians. Every type of person you can think of. I can be aggressive and loud as well as reserved and quiet my teaching style is customized to the audience that I have. In my estimation teaching/instructing High School kids is very much like teaching Privates. That’s not to say they are Soldiers but the concepts and lessons are very similar. With High School kids however you cannot be as harsh. I am usually not the stereo typical Drill Sergeant like in my personality, I only get that way if I need to. Military discipline is important but that only means that when you represent a military or military like organization you act in a military manner. I have not had the opportunity to teach at the JROTC level however I have fallen-in-line with an established syllabus as well as developing partial or entirely new syllabuses. Thank you for this opportunity
