Company overview

• Vliegasunie B.V.(“VU”) is founded in 1982.

Its original activities concerned the removal and

conversion of by-products (fly ash, bottom ash and FGD

gypsum) into useful products

• Today we offer our clients a full package of marketing,

logistics and administrative services

• Currently fly ash, bottom ash and FGD gypsum are used

in the building and construction sector in products such

as concrete, cement, asphalt, plaster board

• VU is lean organised and employs 12 (7 internal and 5

external) persons. VU closely cooperates with “external”

service providers

• Certification (CE, Dutch Soil Quality Decree, KOMO,

BENOR, Ü-Zeichen, VLAREMA)

• Dutch implementation equal performance concept

EN450 K=1

• By-product status

• New fly ash terminal SMZ Moerdijk 2012

• New power plant 800MW, Rotterdam COP 2014

• New power plant 2 * 800MW, Eemshaven COP 2015

• Energy Agreement:

– Shut down of 5 Dutch units, within 2015-2017

– Co-combustioning biomass; 2020 target 25 PJ

Storage capacity and loading facilities PFA

- Geertruidenberg Amer* 4,000 m3 (T+B)

- Amsterdam Hemweg 25,000 m3 (T+B+S)**

- SMZ-terminal 30,000 m3 (T)

- Rotterdam 22,000 m3 (B+S)

- Eemshaven 42,000 m3 (T+B+S)

* excluding a temporary 100,000 tonnes stockpile for conditioned fly ash

** T = trucks; B = inland barges; S = sea going barges/vessels (cement tankers)

Page 9: By-product management for the Dutch coal fired power

Preferred inland transport by self

discharging silo barges (Binnenlloyd)

• Quick and flexible delivery

• Environmental friendly

• Weather independent

• Dust free

• Capacity 350 – 1600 MT

• Segregated compartments, transportation of different products in one trip

• Electronic draught survey

• Loading and unloading from/to silo, silo truck, silo wagon or silo vessel

• Discharge speed up to 450 MT/h, depending on product and circumstances

Page 10: By-product management for the Dutch coal fired power

Fly ash terminal SMZ Moerdijk

• Storage, blending and distribution facility for

EN 450 cat. A fly ash

• Intake by (inland)vessels, and 24/7 distribution

by silo trucks (concrete industry)

• Flexibility to react on quality deviations of PFA

due to the operation of the power plants

Conclusions

- After transition period: high efficient coal fired plants

remaining

- Sufficient high quality fly ash for serving the concrete

and cement markets

- In the near future mainly EN 450 category A

- Future decrease and stabilisation of volumes to be

expected (2020: 800.000 to 900.000 MT/year)

- Logistic facilities: excellent logistic facilities for shipping

to domestic, hinterland and over seas markets
