Greece is the birthplace of many ideas, people would say. So now let’s look at the famous ancient architecture of Greece

and many other interesting facts about the magical and mysterious ancient world.

There is many many famous architects that built different temples. An example will be Paeonius of Ephesus, he is one of the famous ancient Greek architects that built the temple to the Goddess Artemis and a temple to the God Apollo, using the Ionic order.

Another example would be Libon another famous architect. He built the Doric temple to Zeus at Olympia, in about 460 BC, during this time he inspires the technique and designs of the Athena Parthenon.

11,600 BCE to 3,500 BCE is the start of the timeline of the architecture. Which is called “Prehistoric times”. In the Prehistoric times

human use to move stone into circles and to use stones to create patterns, geometric

forms to create art. Some of the structures from the time still puzzled the scientist and archaeologist these days. Stonehenge, cliff dwellings in the Americas, and many more

structures that is lost in time.

• The Greek Gods include:

• Zeus, lord of the sky and lightning, the king among the Gods.

• Poseidon, lord of the sea, horses and earthquakes.

• Ares, the god of war.

• Hephaestus, the gos of blacksmith and fire.

• Apollo, the god of medicine, poetry, oracle, music, sun.

• Hermes, the god of travel, and messages.

• Dionysus, the god of grape, and wine.

WHO WERE THE DIFFERENT GREEK GODS?

These Greek Gods are the 12 Olypians, the main 12 Gods and Goddesses. But in the Greek myth there is many more Minor Gods and other powerful Gods. Hades, lord of the underground and death. Hestia, The

Goddess of the hearth.

• The Greek Goddesses include:

• Hera, the goddess of family and marriage.

• Athena, the goddess of wisdom, war and architecture.

• Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and harvest.

• Aphrodite, The goddess of love and beauty.

• Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and the moon.

•Many parts of Greece became more modernize over the years. Especially architecture and structures. At first, the houses is the simplest type of temples built. A rectangular room with projecting walls this basic kind of structure remain unchanged for several years. It was eight century BCE when the Greeks finally started to change their materials to wood and mud bricks!

•Greece, is the birthplace of the Olympics, also birthplace of the stadium. Before where the Olympics was held from a field of grass, into an ancient Greek stadium. Then to the big modern stadium. From temples to amphitheaters all of the structures changed throughout the years.

• Ancient Greek developed three architectural styles, the Doric, Ionic and C Corinthian orders. Each type of style can be identify in many ways. Doric order is the simplest style. There is no base in the Doric style column. Ionic order is more with decorative designs and carvings. Lines and instruments carved inside. Lastly, the Corinthian order, this order the most decorative and elaborate of the Greek styles. These different styles of the columns are the main difference between the other ancient building compare to the ancient Greek style. These styles shows a unique way about the ancient columns.

• Fun fact: Did you know that the famous Athena Parthenon use the Doric style to decorate the columns?

• Should Greek people protect their ancient architecture? This is a question that have been solved recently and in a fair way. Many people think that we should protect the ancient architecture because there might be some secrets still unknown inside, or this is old from the ancient times so we must protect it. On the other side, people might think that these architecture is just a waste of land and space. So at last the people agree to change most of the temples and leave the famous and huge temples in place. But for the temples and structures that is still in place, these structures is protected by the people and the government. The Greek people is protecting many of their ancient architecture. At the same time, moving toward the modern world.
