Mastery- attaining a level of skill that goes beyond technique.

Qualities of a master student: Works hard without any effort. Relaxed and alert. Disciplined and spontaneous. Focused and fun loving.

Mastery cannot be taught, it can only be learned and experienced.

There's multiple things that can be done to be successful in school if you feel you’re not up for the task. Here are a few pointers that may come in handy.

Acknowledge your concerns. Ease into it. Delegate tasks. Review subjects before you start classes.

1. Label the instructor as a “dud” and when you have the opportunity, write a poor (teacher’s) review.

2. Don’t give your power away, and take control of your education.

Research the instructor. Show interest in class. Don’t release judgments. Get to know the instructor.

Motivation – the ability to do a task even when you don’t feel like it.

We all as students need to be motivated so we can be the best we can be at what we’re doing. Here are some ways to stay motivated:

Promise it. Befriend the discomfort. Sweeten the task. Ask for support Compare payoffs to cost.

The Introduction chapter is basically saying we as students need to work hard to become whatever we want to be, because its not going to come easy. Its also gives us some guidelines on how to discover what we want to be and some qualities we need to become a master student.
