The Pacific Ocean

Area- 63,780,000 Sq. Miles. Average Depth- 15,215 ft. Deepest Point- Mariana Trench,

36,198 feet. Covers 30% of the Earth. The name Pacific Ocean Means-

Peaceful Sea. Around 25,000 Islands

The Atlantic Ocean

Area- 41,080,000 Sq. Miles. Average Depth- 10,950 ft. Deepest Point- Puerto Rico Trench,

28,231 feet. During winter the Atlantic is almost

covered with Sea Ice. Covers 21% of Earth.

Area- 5,400,000 Sq. Miles. Average Depth-3,953 Feet. Deepest Point- Eurasia Basin, 17,881

Largest Hurricane

The largest Hurricane ever recorded was Gilbert, in Jamaica 1998. Wind speed was up to 170mph with gusts more than 200mph.

Shipwrecks

The Mary Rose was one of the most powerful warships in the fleet of King Henery VIII. On July 19, 1545,sailing to Portsmouth Harbor to battle with the French; it sunk almost everyone on board. The remains were recovered in 1982.

The Snipe eel

The snipe eel lives in deep water. They have thin bodies up to 4 feet long and they have backward pointing teeth.

Shark!

There are more than 340 different species of sharks but only 27 known to eat people. The largest Shark Species is the Great White. The largest Great White recorded was 30 feet long and weighed around 10,000 pounds.

These are only a few facts about our oceans which cover over half of the Earth’s surface, and contain many, many interesting creatures!
