WHAT IS PCP?
•PCP is an anesthetic that is sedative. Users get a feeling of being outside of their bodies and secluded from their environment.
HISTORY OF PCP
• PCP was created and approved as an anesthetic in humans, but was discontinued in 1965 because patients became mentally ill.
SHORT-TERM EFFECTS OF PCP
• At low doses PCP can cause changes in body awareness, similar to alcohol intoxication. Other effects include abundant sweating and poor muscular coordination.• At high doses of PCP it can cause
hallucinations, seizures, and sometimes death.
LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF PCP
• PCP is an addictive drug. Users tend to develop a psychological dependence, yearning for PCP behavior.• People who use PCP have reported
memory loss, problems with talking and thinking, depression, and weight loss. These symptoms may last up to a year after quitting.
TREATMENT FOR PCP
• People addicted to PCP usually go through recovery programs to eventually be able to quit without going back to the drug.• If a person is a regular user it is important
