Today’s principles of inductionheating have earned a place inevery modern production line,and their use is constantlyincreasing. In particular, theapplication machines in aninduction heating installationform the basis of a successfulheating process for variouslyformed workpieces. Universal

machines are preferable if thenumber of workpieces doesn’tjustify a single purpose machine.

The design of an EFD universalmachine allows the semi-auto-matic application of all customaryinduction heating processesincluding static hardening, pro-gressive hardening and singleshot hardening all with orwithout workpiece rotation. Atthe basic performance level, the

vertical inductor movement isdriven by a NC axis. The BVHSeries, combined with a moderntransistorized EFD power source,offers the user the advantage of compact form with minimum

space requirement while stillretaining comfort and flexibilityof use. In combination withproven EFD quality, this systemoffers a notably economicalprice for its performance.

Increasing demands for equip-ment efficiency and technicalcapability mean that CNC con-trols have to be incorporatedinto induction hardening

equipment whilst coping withthe demands of the PLC. Thesystems have to handle therapid processing of digital andanalogue data. With this inmind the EFD concept, whichis based around the SiemensSINUMERIK 840 D family,can be delivered in 3 standard-versions.The series 840 D-B (basicrange), 840 D-M (mediumrange) and 840 D-T (top range)

will be pre-selected dependingon the individual requirementsbeginning from 1 axis-operationup to multi axes-applications.The control unit is mounted in

its own cabinet attached to themachine body. The systemoperation field is located inclose vicinity to the operator.The control concept on the dis-play for supervision of quality,operating and monitoring is thesame for all three options.Absolute encoders replace thetime consuming requirement of referencing the system on "StartUp”.
