Introduction Organisations are continually looking at their interaction

portals with Customers

Internet is emerging as a main source for interaction

Service portals need to be user-friendly and effective

Inter-active sites are replacing static info pages

Customer navigation preferences differ (provide options)

Time and efficiency are key drivers

Use of Geographic Information Science (GIS) is ideal Integrated computer system for capturing, storing,

querying, analysing and displaying geo-spatial data Customers are familiar with this (google maps, GPS,

etc) Used extensively in web sites currently

Project Purpose To select a site currently in use as a starting point

Build in input and advice from business owner

Demonstrate the benefits of geo-spatial components

Integrate a number of methods (web site & mapping & script)

To provide a prototype for enhancement of a web site

Generate some discussions on streamlining the site

Ideally for some of the ideas to be built in

To work as a project team, tapping into skill sets

Web Site chosen and observations

Inland Revenue – Seminars and Workshops sites

Aware that this service is of prime focus for advisors

Found under www.ird.govt.nz, when searching for “Seminars”

Opening note: This already provides a strong platform for the service (already a well thought out site in place)

Ideas provided are around making this interactive and more user-friendly

Some fine tuning suggestions noted: Difficult to locate existing pages (more links & main

page link?) Some regions have e-mail link, others don’t No option to see larger region lists (e.g. Auckland) Some differences in each regional page layout

Input from the Business Met with the business to run over the project

Discussed early ideas and options

Clarified on the workshops/seminars, regions, and categories

Confirmed contact details required, and additional useful info, e.g. Type (Employer, self-employed, etc) Interest (GST, Rental, etc) Stage (New Business, established, etc)

Discussed potential longer term enhancements

Organised for presentation back to the business

Research of Options Google Map interface

New Zealand (mxd) map already in production

Post code prompts

Search options for business type, region

Click-able regions in current map

Build a map in ArcGIS with supporting data

Network analysis – closest distance to seminar

Provide directions for attendees

Integrate into web site

Web Maps already available (research)

Part of the research was looking at existing maps. Sites reviewed included: Maps and data on koordinates

http://koordinates.com/#/layers/category/boundaries/ NZ Regional councils layer NZ territorial authorities layer (2

version)

amMap http://www.ammap.com/

ealand-map/interactive_map_home.cfm

Kiwi Experience Map http://www.kiwiexperience.com/new-zealand-

map.aspx

Option chosen for prototype Interactive Map (click-able map for

regions), taking to regional info

Post code prompt option (additional approach)

Placement of markers on map for each region with: available seminars/workshops shown Or, having a list prompt for types on

the side

Figure 1: Interactive Map with place mark locators

Option chosen for prototype (cont)

Initial Design Mock up

Demonstration of Prototype

A live demonstration will now be provided on the prototype developed.

Other Sites in operation (demo one) Auckland Council GIS viewer

Has full data for property (value, size) and rates

Adds in Traffic camera info

Is interactive

Layers of info can be added in

Push for organisations to be transparent

Shows how GIS maps are used to provide info and services to customers, and potential for other organisations

Further Development & Next Steps

customers Obtaining key info from attendee, so

can customise workshop/seminar GIS developed interactive map

showing other community services Network analysis feature – select best

location of customer vs. seminars Extension to Advisory visits Provide a geographic list of advisories

(effective management) – Earthquake Commission approach

Centralised reporting and statistics Next Steps

Any Questions ?
