H ammer time: More de-tails are emerging about the The Crossings, a $74

million retirement community on 18.8 acres near the intersection of FM 270 and FM 518 in League City.

Although crews already have begun work on the development, which is sponsored by Methodist Retirement Communities, offi-cials are planning a private ground-breaking ceremony Monday at the construction site.

The Crossings will include 116 independent living apartments, 34 assisted living apartments, 48 skill nursing apartments and 24 memo-ry support apartments.

While the North County is at-tracting its share of retirement com-munities, this is the first “Life Care” facility in the area. Such facilities provides independent living, as-sisted living and nursing home care.

Amenities will include multiple casual and fine dining venues, a fitness facility, swimming pool and various activity centers. Construc-tion is expected to be complete in the fall of 2015.

Orchard open: Meanwhile, Orchard Park at Victory Lakes, 2770 W. Walker St., in League City, is open. Orchard Park offers 60 assisted living units. In a separate, secure wing, it will serve another 40 patients in need of Alzheimer’s and dementia care.

Orchard Park’s assisted living facility, much like an apartment complex with private units, of-fers a major dining room, a movie theater room, activity rooms and business centers.

On tap: Remember those ru-

mors that College Station-based Grub Burger Bar was planning to open in the building formerly occupied by Berryhill Baja Grill, 2660 Marina Bay Drive in League City? The rumor wasn’t true.

Instead, Tapology Gastro Pub has leased 3,000 square feet and will soon open at the site. The pub will offer 60 different beers on tap and will have a full restaurant with such fare as burgers, steak and chicken, reports the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.

What’s that? Inquiring readers want to know about all the bustle at 1316 state Highway 3, (near the bridge over the railroad in League City). Work is underway on a

150-space RV park going by the name League City RV Resort. No word on an opening date. Stay tuned.

Paradise found: An island trio has opened Limon Paradise, a purveyor of Mexican snacks and raspas, or snowcones, 4112 Sea-wall Blvd. Bertha Fuentes, Ray Fuentes and Luis Plata opened Limon Paradise this week to a brisk business.

The stand is like ones you’d find in Mexico, deep South Texas or even Houston, for that matter, offering such fare as elotes (sea-soned roasted corn), fruit cocktails,

smoothies and the raspas. Bertha Fuentes said Limon Paradise’s opening day was very busy. The venture so far doesn’t have any competitors, she said.

Snapshot: Rumor has it that islander Joey Quiroga, known for creating art with photography, is collaborating with other local art-ists to open a space downtown to feature works.

The venue also would be home to a doggy boutique offering fresh-baked treats and canine clothing. More details weren’t immediately available. Stay tuned.
