Bushidokan is a pioneer of martial arts in the U.S. and is known for challenging the faults associated with blind allegiance to one particular set of techniques. In all, Bushidokan has borrowed techniques from over 10 different martial arts and three primary systems: karate, judo, and jiu-jitsu. Add in large doses of kickboxing, realistic self-defense, military arts, weapons training, and body conditioning, and you start to get a pretty good picture of what Bushidokan is all about. All ages are welcome!

If you are a business owner, or are considering starting your own business, this information is a must for you and your bookkeeper. The presentation covers all areas of sales and use tax, including licensing requirements, exemptions, reporting, and taxable services.

Agri-Business SeminarOct 2 (T)1:00 – 4:00 p.m., $10This class will cover, in detail, the sales tax exemption for commercial agricultural producers on the purchase and repair of equipment. Discussion will include qualifying agricultural operations, equipment and parts, and how to obtain a refund for tax paid on parts for depreciable agricultural equipment purchased prior to October 1, 2014. Exemptions for feed, seed, and chemicals will be explained. A portion of the session will be dedicated to contractors who build structures, such as grain bins used in agricultural operations. Instructors will teach participants how to complete tax returns for a variety of scenarios, as well as related exemption and refund forms. This session will benefit farmers, implement dealers, equipment suppliers, and parts store owners, as well as those who operate machine shops and other types of repair facilities. Basic Judo/Grappling/Break-FallJun 8 (F), $12Judo differs from many other martial arts because children must work with each other. In this Judo/grappling camp, kids will learn about cooperation and teamwork while making new friends in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Also, the practical skill of learning how to fall and tumble without getting hurt is a skill kids will use for life!

Basic Karate/KickboxingJun 15 (F), $12Japanese karate and American kickboxing combine to make this camp a day kids won’t forget! Kids will be introduced to blocks, strikes, and kicks in a fun and disciplined manner. The day will culminate in a rigorous kickboxing workout on punching bags where they learn real kickboxing combinations. Bonus for parents: your kids will sleep well that night!

Basic Self-DefenseJun 22 (F), $12Self-defense is something that can be learned at almost any age. Kids will learn how to escape and evade common attacks in a safe, structured environment. Common tactics of abductors and con artists will be discussed. Camp participants will also practice proven verbal skills for disarming bullies. Role play scenarios will deal with serious issues in a fun and safe environment where kids can build confidence, learn practical skills, and be introduced to concepts of honor and integrity.

Introduction to Bushidokan“The Way of the Warrior School”Jun 29 (F), $12Bushidokan is a pioneer marial art in the U.S. It is composed of three main components: karate, judo, and jiu-jitsu. Students will learn how the striking, kicking, and grappling techniques flow together to create this well-rounded versatile martial art. Did we mention there will be sword fighting? A student favorite, sparring with foam swords is a fun and safe way to introduce students to the different aspects of martial arts competition.

Electricity and Magnetism Fun 2 June 30Explore the relationship between magnetism and electricity. Discover how and why those forces interract. Make a train from a coil of wire, battery, and magnets. Experiment with multi-color LEDs and solar cells. Students will be able to take home LEDs and other components to continue experimentation.

All About FossilsJuly 14Explore plant and animal fossils that are millions of years old! Discover what fossils are, how they are formed, and why they are important to understanding the earth. Learn where fossils are found and how to collect them. Students will take home several specimens to start their own collection.

Exploring Owl PelletsJuly 28Dissect owl pellets to find out what they are, why owls can’t digest bones or fur, and what they do about that. Students can keep the bones they find. Oftentimes, complete skulls are found!

Cupcake BossCupcakes are simply irresistible single servings of delicious cakes and frosting dressed up in perfect little packages. In this course, student chefs participate in a number of “challenges” to see who is the “boss”of each challenge. Some of the challenges are individual challenges and some are group challenges.

Chef’s DelightThis class is sure to be a delightful experience for young chefs. Several educational skills are enhanced as they share stories, participate in cooking experiences, and learn about kitchen safety and dining etiquette. Students will have opportunities to practice math and reading skills, learn science concepts, and develop good work habits as they work cooperatively in groups. What better motivator for learning than a good story and fun food?

Robotics WeekJun 11 – 14 (M – TH), 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.$30/day or $100/week Ages: 9 – 14 In this club, you build a robot using parts from a Lego MindStorms #9797 robot kit, and learn to program the robot using software. Then we put our robot to work conquering some challenges. Not as big or expensive as the Mars Curiosity Rover, but just as much fun!

All About the Arts WeekJun 18 – 21 (M – TH)

1:00 – 4:00 p.m.$30/day or $100/week

Ages: 7 – 14

Caution: Wet PaintImagine, explore, discover, and create products using a variety of paint. Students use puffy paint, neon paint, liquid watercolors, pearl paints, glitter paint, and glow-in-the-dark paint. Students learn about famous artists from around the world and emulate their famous works of art.

Marvelous MosaicsStudents learn about the ancient art of mosaic and learn to make their own artwork using a variety of fun materials. Students cut, glue, read, and create as they learn about how traditional and modern mosaics are made.

Duct Tape DynastyDuct tape solves everything, right? Students use duct tape to decorate jars, composition books, pencil pouches, pencils, etc. Students also create various items such as pouches, wallets, flowers, and bracelets using only duct tape.

Just Bead itBeads, safety pins, leather, and washers! Does that sound intriguing? These are just a few of the materials you’ll explore and create with in this course. Create bracelets, rings, and necklaces for all occasions. Embellish items such as picture frames and beads.

Career Camps WeekJun 25 – 28 (M – TH)1:00 – 4:00 p.m.$30/day or $100/week Ages: 9 – 14 This week is dedicated to student exploration of a variety of careers such as health professionals, engineers, cosmetologists, and veterinarians. During this week, students have the opportunity to meet actual professionals in these areas. Students participate in a variety of career-specific activities. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Astronomy WeekJul 16 – 19 (M – TH)1:00 - 4:00 p.m.$30/day or $100/week Ages: 7 – 14Explore the size and scale of our solar system by mapping out the sun and planets on a very large map—over 1,000 yards in length! Investigate the other planets in our solar system, observe the sun using telescopes, binoculars, and other tools. Captain Kirk would be proud!

Innovate, Create & Explore WeekJul 23 – 26 (M – TH)

1:00 – 4:00 p.m.$30/day or $100/week

Ages: 7 – 14

CSI: Crime Scene InvestigationsAre you a sleuth? Do you want to become one? If you would like to learn more about solving crime, this is the course for you! Students meet crime-fighting professionals and learn their secrets. Students learn the art of fingerprinting, hair analysis, and other trace evidence left at the scene of the crime.

Gooey, Gross, and GreenIn this course, students create things that ooze, bounce, and squish! Students take part in a number of hands-on gooey, gross, and green fun science and art projects.

Jammin’ in the JungleStudents explore the mysteries of exotic plants and animals through beautiful books and interesting activities. Students’ learning is enhanced with several science skills including probability, biodiversity,

and horticulture. Come and join the fun of this jungle adventure!

Dream BuildersAre you a master Lego builder? Would you like to be? This course encourages students to explore their creativity and skills. Students enhance their imagination and skills as they unleash their inner Lego builder! All building levels welcomed!

Exploring K’NEX WeekJul 30 – Aug 2 (M – TH)1:00 – 4:00 p.m.$30/day or $100/weekAges 9 – 14Are you familiar with “Punkin’ Chunkin’”? Build some simple machines using K’NEX building system pieces to understand the physics involved in various classes of levers. Then create your own “Chunkin’’” machine to launch projectiles, much smaller than pumpkins, in competition. We also explore with the K’NEX building system to create bridges, structures, and simple machines. By the end of the week, we will have had a competition to see who can build the lightest and strongest bridge!

WNAC Summer CampsJun 5 – 8 (T – F)1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Ages: 10 – 15WNAC Members: $90Non-Members: $130

Youth will be engaged and inspired with fun, visual art workshops instructed by our expert team of arts professionals. It’s a great way for students to sharpen existing skills or try something completely new. During four days of classes, they create original artwork and have a great time exploring different mediums and techniques. There will be a mini reception on Friday, June 8, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. displaying students artwork. The registration fee includes all art materials, an art camp t-shirt, and bottled water. Please have your child wear old clothes during the art camp and arrive rested, fed, and ready to make art.

Jun 6 – Jun 8 (W – F)9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages: 6 – 9 WNAC Members: $60 Non-Members: $75

It’s a great way for students to sharpen existing skills or try something completely new. During three days of classes, they create original artwork and have a great time exploring different mediums and techniques. Students will create baskets by wrapping coil with paper. Students will also learn basic printmaking with objects they can use from home. Please have your child wear old clothes during the art camp and arrive rested, fed, and ready to make art.
