• The current program provides passes to only 300 students a semester and is

supported by categorical funds

• The Viking Shuttle route is limited to running only between campuses

• Students who purchase their own discounted bus passes still pay $40/month

• The process for students to get their own discounted passes can be a barrier

4. How would the PROPOSED PILOT PROGRAM work?• Expand availability of free passes from 300 students a semester to 1,000 students a

semester

• Students eligible for free passes would include full-time students who are in good standing and are the following:

• College Promise• Disabled• Disproportionately Impacted (Equity)• EOPS• Foster Youth• Veterans

• Allow more students to get a pass from the LBCC Cashier’s office—a simpler process than through LB Transit

• Funding source for the pilot: one-time, restricted funding

4. How would the PROPOSED PILOT PROGRAM work?• June-August 2019: Prepare to Launch

• Begin notifying students as they enroll over the summer• Post signs key locations when the semester begins• Direct students to get ID and College Services Card (CSC) sticker immediately• LBCC and LBT communications campaign

• August-December 2019: Pilot Period• Monitor cost on a monthly basis

• Cost is calculated based on an average of 27 rides/month • LBCC is billed at $0.75/ride ($20.25/month for 27 rides)

• Review usage data on a monthly basis

• January 2020: Evaluation • How many students actually took advantage of the free bus passes?• What was the actual cost?• Could we afford to expand the program to additional students?• How could we improve the program?• What did students think? Student focus groups and surveys
