e My journey through Turkey starts in Bursa. It is the fourth largest city in this country and has

nearly 2 million inhabitants. Bursa is located a few hours bus ride - over land and water - below Istan-bul on the Marmarasea.

The city has, from swimming to skiing, much to offer. The Uludağ mountain attracts locals and tourists and is a place for activities and relaxation. It also offers a beautiful view over Bursa.

The city itself is characterized by a very long his-tory. Beginning in Byzantium with the Romans through the Ottoman Empire - Bursa today has become an important industrial centre. Towels, silk, chestnuts and peaches are well known pro-ducts and goods of this city.

Furthermore, worths mentioning is also the lokal soccer club: "Bursaspor" - it's supportet by one of the largest fangroups in Turkey.

d Meine Reise durch die Türkei beginnt in Bursa. Es ist die viertgrößte Stadt in diesem Land und

zählt knapp 2 Millionen Einwohner. Bursa liegt ein paar Stunden Busfahrt - über Land und Wasser - unterhalb von Istanbul am Marmarameer.

Von baden bis Ski fahren hat die Stadt viel zu bie-ten. Der Hausberg Uludağ lockt Einheimische und Touristen an, dient als Freizeit- und Erholungsort und bietet einen schönen Ausblick auf die Stadt.

Bursa selbst prägt eine sehr lange Geschichte – beginnend in Byzanz mit den Römern, über das Osmanische Reich, ist Bursa heute zu einem wich-tigen Industriestandort geworden. Handtüchern, Seide, Kastanien und Pfirsiche sind bekannte Pro-dukte und Erzeugnisse dieser Stadt.

Erwähnenswert ist auch noch der lokale Fußball-verein: „Bursaspor" - dieser wird von einer der größten Fangruppen der Türkei unterstützt wird.

tr Benim Türkiye’de ki yolcuğum Bursa’da başladı. Bursa’nın nüfusu yaklaşık 3 milyon ve Türkiye’nin en büyük 4. Şehridir. Bursa, İstanbul’un altında ki Marmara Denizi, deniz ulaşımı ile 1-2 saat uzaklıktadır. Şehir size dağda kayak yapmayı ve denizde yüzmeyi sunuyor. Uludağ, sahip olduğu turizmsel aktivitilere sayesinde bir çok turisti kendisine çekiyor ve Uludağ, size Bursa’yı en harika şekilde görmenizi sağlıyor.

Şehrin kendisi çok uzun bir tarihe sahip. Bursa, Bizans ve Roma imparatorluğu ile başlayarak Osmanlı Devleti ile önemli bir sanayi merkezi haline gelmiştir. Havlu, İpek, Kestane Şekeri ve şeftali iyi bilinen ürünleridir.

Ayrıca Bursaspor, Türkiye’nin önemli büyük fan kluplerinden bir tanesidir.

inner courtyards with a huge variety of jewelry, fabrics, and other handcrafts in the arches above their heads – that‘s what traditional Bazars („han“) here in Bursa look like. They are loca-ted in beautiful old buildings from Ottoman times.

Besides these, there are a lot of markets („çarşı“) for clothing and other useful things for daily life. In some districts they open just once a week but in the city-centre you find them every day. Shopping generally seems to be a favorite pastime for many Turkisch people, modern shop-ping centers can be found near-ly everywhere.

und in den Rundbögen darüber eine Vielzahl von Schmuck, Stof-fen und anderen Handarbeiten – so sehen die traditionellen Ba-sare („han“) hier in Bursa aus. Sie befinden sich in wunder-schönen Bauten, die noch aus osmanischer Zeit stammen.

Neben diesen gibt es große Märkte („çarşı“) für Kleidung und Alltagssachen. Manche da-von öffnen einmal die Woche, im Zentrum gibt es sie täglich. Shoppen scheint generell eine Lieblingsbeschäftigung vieler Türken zu sein, moderne Ein-kaufszentren finden sich fast überall.

tr Son derece hoş bir iç avluda çay içen insanlar, kafalarının üstündeki kemerlerde takı, kumaş ve diğer el sanatları çeşitleri…- İşte bu Bursa’daki geleneksel çarşıların(„han“) nasıl göründüğünün özeti. Osmanlıdan kalma eski güzel binalarda yer almaktadırlar.

Bunların dışında, piyasada günlük yaşam ihtiyaçlarının karşılandığı bir sürü çarşı vardır. Bazı ilçelerde sadece belirli günler açıkken, şehir mer-kezinde her gün faaliyet halindelerdir. Genel olarak alışveriş, Türkler için favori bir eğlence şekli olarak görülür, ki modern alışveriş merkezleri he-men hemen heryerde bulunabilir.

e Besides the many beautiful mosques with their ottoman

architecturestyle, „Ulu Cami“ stands out because of its mere size. The atmosphere inside is hard to describe, after a few steps you feel the holy, contem-plative character of this special place. It is the largest mosque in Bursa and certainly one of the most impressing. At the entra-ce: take off your shoes, for the women there are head scarves that can be borrowed.

Interesting is furthermore the "green tomb" of Mehmet Ӏ with all the patterned wall tiles and ornaments. It got the name be-cause of its green illumination. Also a lot of other mausoleums from ottoman sultans are loca-ted in Bursa.

d Von der Vielzahl an schönen Moscheen mit osmanischem

Baustil hebt sich die „Ulu Cami“ allein durch ihre Größe hervor. Die Atmosphäre darin ist kaum beschreibbar, schon nach weni-gen Schritten spürt man den religiösen, kontemplativen Cha-rakter des Ortes. Es ist die größ-te Moschee in Bursa und be-stimmt eine der eindrucksvolls-ten. Beim Eingang: Schuhe aus-ziehen, für die Frauen sind Kopftücher bereitgelegt.

Sehenswert ist weiters das „grüne Grabmal" von Mehmet Ӏ mit den gemusterten Wand-fliesen und Verzierungen. Den Namen erhielt es durch die grü-ne Beleuchtung. Auch viele an-dere Mausoleen osmanischer Sultane sind in Bursa zu finden.

tr Osmanlı mimari tarzında inşa edilmiş bir çok güzel camii dışında, „Ulu Camii“ büyüklüğüyle göze çarpıyor. İçerideki atmosferi anlatmak zor, bir kaç adım attıktan sonra bu özel yerin kutsallığını ve derinliğini hissedeceksiniz, Burası Bursadaki en büyük ve kesinlikle en etkileyici camidir. Girişte kadınlar için ödünç eşarp verilmektedir.

Daha da ilginç olarak, tüm desenli duvar karoları ve süs eşyaları ile I. Mehmet’in yeşil türbesidir. Yeşil aydınlatması nedeniyle bu adı almıştır. Ayrıca bir çok Osmanlı Sultanının türbesi Bursa’da bulunmaktadır.

osManlı çayı e Bursa – the former capital of

the Ottoman Empire – ser-ves in it's cultur center "Otto-man Tea". This is made out of 11 ingredients with a secret re-cipe and only may be sweete-ned with a special kind of ho-ney.

In ancient atmosphere, besides calming sound of trickling water and soft, traditional music, the tea is drunk. Definitly an experi-ence and a good opportunity to relax from the stress of the day.

Reichs – serviert im Kulturzent-rum „Osmanischen Tee". Dieser wird mit einer geheimen Rezep-tur aus 11 Zutaten gewonnen und darf nur mit speziellem Ho-nig gesüßt werden.

Im altehrwürdigen Ambiente, neben beruhigendem Wasser-plätschern und leiser, traditi-oneller Musik wird dieser Tee getrunken. Definitiv ein Erleb-nis und eine gute Möglichkeit um vom Stress des Tages abzu-schalten.

tr Bursa – Osmanlı’nın eski başkenti – kültür merkezinde Osmanlı Çayı servis etmektedir. 11 malzemeyle hazırlanan bu özel çayın içeriği gizlidir ve belki bazı özel tatlandırıcılar ve ballar kullanılmıştır.

Antik ortamda, damlayan suyun sesinin rahatlatıcı etkisi, yumuşak ve hafif bir geleneksel müzik ile çay içilir. Kesinlikle iyi bir deneyim ve günün stresinden kurtulmak için güzl bir fırsat.

kültür vesanate “Kültürpark“ is the Metro-

station that leads to the big green area. Whether picnicking, a pedal boattrip, having fun at the bouncy castle or just rela-xing in the shadow - the park is a popular destination for a ge-taway.

On the way to the entry you pass the monument of Hacivat and Karagöz: two huge stone blocks on which two smaller ones rotate –  only by physical forces and water pressure. The Karagöztheater is a very old, traditional shadow play with colourful, painted puppets. It was founded a long time ago by two residents of Bursa to whom this skulpture is dedicated.

d „Kültürpark“ lautet die Met-rostation die zu dem groß

angelegten Park führt. Ob Pick-nick, Tretboot, Hüpfburg oder einfach nur im Schatten liegen – der Kulturpark ist ein belieb-tes Ausflugsziel.

Der Weg dorthin geht an dem Denkmal von Hacivat und Ka-ragöz vorbei: Zwei große Stein-blöcke, auf denen sich zwei kleinere nur mittels physikali-scher Kräfte und Wasserdruck drehen. Das Karagöztheater ist ein altes, traditionelles Schat-tenspiel mit bunt bemalten Puppen. Seinen Anfang fand es durch zwei Bewohner Bursas, denen ebenjene Skulptur ge-widmet ist.

tr „Kültürpark“ metro istasyonunun olduğu büyük yeşil bir alandır. Piknik yapabilir, tekne turuna çıkabilir, kalenin balkonunda eğlenebilir ya da sadece gölge alanlarda rahatlayabileceğiniz- popüler bir kaçış noktasıdır.

Giriş yolunda Karagöz-Hacivat anıtlarını geçiyorsunuz; sadece fiziksel kuvvet ve su basıncı ile konumlandırılmış iki büyük taş blok. Karagöz Ti-yatrosu, renkli kuklaların kullanıldığı çok eski, geleneksel bir gölge oyunu çalışmasıdır. Bu tiyatro Bursanın eski sakinleri olan, heykellerin de itaf edildiği iki kişi tarafından çok uzun yıllar önce bulundu.

the European Union, department for Educa-tion and Youth, is supporting the project: "Turkey through the eyes of the volunteer!" This maga-zine is created by Prisca Ebner, a volunteer from Linz/Austria.

The intent of the project is to assure that the vo-lunteer experiences and sees the country with his or her own eyes. Instead of using virtual sources the magazine should only contain own texts and photographs.

"Tanıtım Gönüllüleri Derneği!" is a Non-Govern-mental Organisation and has group members all over Turkey. Together we work on a national and international level with the aim to present our country, culture and traditions. The motto is: "Wit-hout (background-)knowledge you can't promote".
