Burgoo Festival to be featured on episode of ‘State Plate’ From staff reports Video and interviews shot during the Anderson County Burgoo Festival will be part of the episode on Kentucky food that will be shown on the INSP television show State Plate when it airs on March 12. Host and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks spent the day in Lawrenceburg to spotlight burgoo as one of Kentucky’s iconic foods. Hicks interviewed local resident Davy Warford as he cooked a pot of burgoo on the Law- renceburg green. He also talk- ed on camera with several other people at the festival. While in Lawrenceburg, Hicks met up with members of the Stringtown bluegrass band to cook spoon bread and play some music with the band. State Plate is in its second season. As its host, Hicks is traveling across the country, making stops in each state to sample and talk about some most of the most popular foods you can find from coast to coast. While in Kentucky, the State Plate crew took time to feature Benedictine spread, the Kentucky hot brown, burgoo, spoon bread, and bourbon balls. The episode on Kentucky will air on Monday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. on the INSP net- work. Auxiliary, Legion members help veterans celebrate Valentine’s Day From staff reports The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 34 and a Legion member went to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center on Feb. 10 for a Valentine’s party for resi- dents on the Lincoln Unit. An Anderson County veteran was on that unit, and it happened to be his birthday. Those there all sang Happy Birthday to him, as well. He was an artist and one member was given one of his signed pictures. Members also took a bag of snacks that could be enjoyed another day. Extra bags were taken so everyone on that unit would receive one. The unit went to the Washington Unit, where there were three Ander- son County veterans, and took gift bags and visited with them. The center provided refreshments and members assisted in serving the food and drinks. Members also passed out gift bags and visited with the vet- erans. Two members shopped for the items and another member hand- made 45 Valentine’s cards for the veterans. Those Auxiliary members attend- ing were: Pam Brough, Betty Butler, Donna Nicolette, Nettie Halvorson, Lisa Petrey-Kirk, Charlene Gibson, Mildred Burkhead, and Shirley Thornberry. Legion member, Dave Nicolette, and Steve Brough also came with the Auxiliary members. Video and interviews shot during the Anderson County Burgoo Festival will be part of the episode on Kentucky food that will be shown on the INSP television show State Plate when it airs on

March 12.Host and American Idol

winner Taylor Hicks spent the day in Lawrenceburg to spotlight burgoo as one of Kentucky’s iconic foods. Hicks interviewed local resident Davy Warford as he cooked a pot of burgoo on the Law-

Auxiliary, Legion members helpveterans celebrate Valentine’s Day

Unit 34 and a Legion member went to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center on Feb. 10 for a Valentine’s party for resi-dents on the Lincoln Unit.

An Anderson County veteran was on that unit, and it happened to be his birthday. Those there all sang Happy Birthday to him, as well. He was an artist and one member was given one of his signed pictures.
