Schedule of Approval

1 Product Description

Dynamic Bend Stiffener is used to prevent the overbending of the flexible pipe or umbilical under load.

There are three sections in Dynamic Bend Stiffeners:-

• The central active section, which is normally conical but may be modified to optimise the stiffness profile along the length. The diameter and length of the cone controls the loaded shape and bend radius of the stiffener and cable.

• An additional cylindrical section with a mounting flange and internal steelwork which joins the Polyurethane cone to the end fitting. For dynamic BSRs, the end fitting has a combination of an inner Tube to securely attach the Polyurethane and an outer Cage to provide extra support and reduce the stress on the Polyurethane to Steel bond at the mating flange face.

• A short straight section at the tip of the small end of the cone. This is to reinforce the thin area of the stiffener to inhibit tearing of the Polyurethane.

Dynamic Bend Stiffener is designed as per requirement of API 17L 1: 2013.

2 Application

Flexible pipes or umbilical carries high risk of overbend. Dynamic Bend Stiffener works as a sleeve to these pipes and restricts the movement. The definition of Dynamic Bend Stiffener can be summarised a shown below.

'Dynamic Bend Stiffener is a mechanical device consists of a tapered elastomeric sleeve fitted over a flexible pipe, umbilical or cable to provide extra support and prevent overbending."

Purchaser shall specify the Bend Stiffener Design parameters in accordance with API 17L 1: 2013 Section 5.2.3.

The design of Dynamic Bend Stiffener verified by Bureau Veritas under this certificate is subjected to following limitations.

Independent Appraisal Report 15ABD1 0601 Rev. 0 and 17 ABD1 0222 Rev. 0 details the assessment of these reviews. Hence Type Approval Certificate 15ABD1 0765 Rev. B shall be read in conjunction with appraisal reports 15ABD1 0601 Rev. 0 and 17 ABD1 0222 Rev. 0.

4 Material Specifications

API 17L 1 specifies material requirements to be as per section 4.4. Section 6.4 of API 17L 1 illustrates specific qualification tests needs to be performed for Bend Stiffener along with test procedures.

Balmoral Comtec shall demonstrate the qualification test records to prove the compliance of material selected for bend stiffener to the requirement specified in sections 4.4 and 5.4 of API 17L 1: 2013.

Bureau Veritas has reviewed qualification test report BGLR 2187 submitted by Balmoral Comtec. Information provided in this report confirms the compliance against API 17L 1 -tables 5 and 12.

Metallic material used for mounting flange, steel work and fasteners shall comply with the requirement of table 6 & 7 of API 17L 1: 2013. Material data sheets provided by Balmoral Comtec satisfy the requirement stated in above mentioned section.

5 Test Procedures

API 17L 1 - Section 6. 7 states detailed procedures to follow while performing FATs. Balmoral Comtec document 12844-PD-01 0 Rev. 01 specifies the production test procedures for Bend Stiffener. Bureau Veritas reviewed this document and found in compliance with section 5. 7 of API 17L 1: 2013.

6 Type Test reports

Bureau Veritas has witnessed qualification tests performed for Bend Stiffener. Results of tests were documented under inspection report BV-BAL-8632678-IR-001 Rev.OO by Bureau Veritas. Summarised assessment has shown below.

60.4 Shore D. This is within the allowable limit, hence test results were accepted as satisfactory.

Visual Inspection Visual inspection was carried out on product prior to production test. Bend Stiffener was found in acceptable condition.

Dimensional Check Dimensional check was performed at the beginning of FAT and measurements were found in compliance with drawing 12784-DW-BS-GA-01-001.

Weight Measurement Weight of the assembly was measured as 506.5 kg for information. This criterion may differ on a case by case basis.

Production test reports 13056-PD-011-001 Rev. 04 and 12325-PD-011 Rev. 02 were also provided to Bureau Veritas for review. Bureau Veritas did not witness FATs carried out for this project as a third party. However results for all tests were noted as "PASS" meeting the API 17L 1 requirements.

7 Marking of Product

Drawings provided for the Bend Stiffener shows the marking signs. They were found in compliance with the requirement stated in section 5.8 of API 17L 1: 2013.

8 Certificate Retention

The Type Approval is valid only if the certificate retention process is followed by the approval of manufacturer's quality management system with annual surveillance.

Bureau Veritas has reviewed the design methodology adopted for Bend stiffener against the requirements stated in API 17L 1: 2013. Design methodology was found to be in compliance with API 17L 1: 2013 for Dynamic Bend Stiffeners suitable for a range of Flexible Pipe diameters.

Bureau Veritas have reviewed the Dynamic Bend Stiffener design documentation which highlights flexible pipe ID of 8" , this Parameter is not considered as a limiting factor for Dynamic Bend Stiffener design covered by this type approval. (project reference 13423, BV report 17 ABD1 0197 Rev. 0).

Bureau Veritas have also reviewed Dynamic Bend Stiffener design where Spindle & Ring Assembly and Nuts are made up of lnconel 625 UN06625 material. Independent appraisal report 17 ABD1 0375 Rev. 0 details assessment carried out to check its suitability to project specific requirements and its compliance to API 17L 1.

This type approval certificate does not cover maintenance and commissioning of the Dynamic Bend Stiffeners.

Balmoral Comtec shall demonstrate all relevant documents including design reports and calculations on a case by case basis for project specific product.
