Definition of a Child Care Provider

Teaching is full of many responsibilities, roles, and challenges. Like most worthwhile endeavors, it brings both challenges and

rewards.

When teachers work as a partner in learning children are encouraged to find their own answers instead of having answers

provided for them. By being a partner, teachers learn with the children and share in their experiences.

Early childhood teachers support learning by providing activities and materials that children find engaging. By facilitating

learning, supplying a developmentally appropriate environment, interesting materials, and adequate time to explore, play, and

interact, children find learning easy and fun!

Teachers communicate with many people throughout the day: parents, children, support staff, the general public, and

administrators. Early childhood teachers must be prepared to communicate with all of these people.

Paperwork, lesson planning, preparing materials and the environment, and negotiating require teachers to have strong

management skills. Managing a classroom requires organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment

NEW HIRE INITIAL TRAINING within 90 days:

Symptoms of Illness/Bloodborne Pathogens

Recognizing/Reporting Abuse & Neglect

SIDS (for infant toddler caregivers)

CPR/First Aid

Child Development (3hrs) training

NV Registry membership application

15 annual training hours in the field of early

childhood development

The training required must be designed to:

(a) Ensure the protection of the health and safety of each child accommodated in the facility; and (b) Promote the physical, moral and mental well-being of each child accommodated in the facility.

Safety: Sec. 3. NAC 432A.304

(d) Ensure that each member of the staff of the

facility who is not a caregiver, but whose job duties

may directly impact children cared for in the facility,

has the training necessary to protect the health and

safety of the children and the health and safety of the

other members of the staff, including, without

limitation, training concerning proper nutrition,

methods of sanitation and procedures for maintaining

a safe environment in the facility

be readily accessible and available to be

summoned to ensure the safety of the children in

the facility.

New Employee Orientation:

Sec. 10 NAC 432A.320.1 Except as otherwise provided in NRS 432A.177, within the first 2 weeks after commencing employment, newly employed members of the staff of a facility must be given a written and oral orientation program and be trained in the policies, procedures and programs of the facility by the director in the policies, procedures and programs of the facility or a designee trained by the director. The orientation must address, at a minimum: regulatory

requirements, facility policy/procedures and practices relating to parents, emergency health/safety, food serving

and nutrition policy, diapering/toilet training.

Before/After School Ratio: NAC 432A.530

1. A licensee of a child care center may, after obtaining the written permission of the Chief of the Bureau, provide care before and after normal school hours for up to three additional children or 10 percent more children than the number stated on the facility’s license, whichever number is greater, if each of the additional children is at least 6 years of age and less than 16 years of age. 2. A licensee of a child care center who accepts such additional children shall have one additional caretaker for up to 20 children so accepted and one additional caretaker for every 1 to 20 additional children thereafter. 3. The care must not exceed 3 consecutive hours before normal school hours and 3 consecutive hours after normal school hours. (Added to NAC by Bd. for Child Care, eff. 8-31-

The National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA) ~ The National Early Childhood Program Accreditation has been supporting educational programs strive for excellence since 1993. fees, provides quality improvement grants, and a one-time accreditation bonus. Grant and bonus amounts are based on the number of children served.
