Needs of the Church in Canada Each year the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops is asked to speak out, give leadership, or provide guidelines for the faithful on a wide variety of topics. In order for our Bishops to be able to make proper judgments on modern topics, they must have the benefit of research and expert ad-vice. Research and gathering information and find-ing ways of disseminating information to the people of God require staff, time, and money. Through the yearly Bishops collection for the needs of the Church in Canada, an appeal is made to all Catho-lics to be generous in supporting the work of their Bishops. This collection will be taken up next weekend September 26 & 27th.

25th Sunday in Ordinary Time Sunday September 20, 2015
Defined by Suffering Wis 2:12, 17-20 Let us put the just one to the test. Psalm 54 The Lord upholds my life. James 3:16-4:3 Conflicts in the community come from within. Mark 9:30-37 The disciples do not understand Je-sus.
Who was the Greatest? At first, Jesus' apostles may have joined him in the hope that he was a political revolu-tionary. They thought that he would launch a rebellion and set up a new kingdom in Isra-el. This helps us understand the unsaintly arrogance in their quarrel today. Jesus has spe-
cifically rejected any political motives. The apostles hear only what they want. They anticipate holding prominent offices in the new reign to come. We must remember that saints are, first of all, human beings. They begin with the same ambitions and failings that we have, but rise above them. -- Fr. Richard Lonsdale
Next Weeks Readings Num 11:25-29 Jealousy among Moses followers Psalm 19 The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart. James 5:1-6 Warnings for the rich Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 Jesus responds to his dis-ciples jealousy and misunderstanding.

Climate change is an issue of justice!
Responding to the call of Pope Francis to take ur-gent action on curbing climate change, Develop-ment and Peace has launched the 2015 campaign: Create a Climate of Change! This campaign calls on all Canadian Catholics and people of good faith to take concrete action to help reduce climate change which is having the most devastating im-pacts on the poor and vulnerable in the Global South. People in the Global South suffer the most from the impacts of climate change, yet they are the ones who contribute the least to the carbon emis-sions that are warming the planet. Did you know that Canada has carbon emissions that are 150 times higher per capita than Ethiopia, one of the countries in the world that suffers the most from drought conditions exacerbated by climate change? Pope Francis reminds us of our responsibility to act in his encyclical Laudato Si: The pace of consump-tion, waste and environmental change has so stretched the planets capacity that our contempo-rary lifestyle, unsustainable as it is, can only precip-itate catastrophes, such as those which even now periodically occur in different areas of the world. The effects of this imbalance can only be reduced by our decisive action here and now. Take part in Development and Peaces campaign Create a Cli-mate of Change to do your part!
