ADVENT AT ST. MAX
Each week as you enter into the church, you will see a sign that says “Prepare the Way for the
Lord!” and a word. We encourage you to take a few minutes out of the hustle and bustle of
preparing for Christmas to think about each word and how that word relates to the preparation of
Jesus’ birth. In Luke’s Gospel Chapter 21, we hear that the Son of Man is coming. There is not a
date set in stone and no Google calendar reminder to announce the second coming. We need to
live like we’re ready, all of the time.
Week 1: Prepare the way for the Lord! Expectation
The season of Advent is a time of expectation. The Lord is coming! Wake up! Get ready! The
First Sunday of Advent comes as a surprise in the humdrum of our daily lives. We are running
around as usual, from one task to the next, one busy day to the next, when suddenly here it is
again. What? Is it that time of the year again?
The church encourages us to slow down, to refocus, to wait for the coming of the Lord in quiet
hope. We look forward to his coming in glory at the end of time, but we concentrate more now
on preparing ourselves for his present coming in grace as we look back to his first coming, the
incarnation, to understand what it means for us.
Reflection:
Did the season of Advent catch you by surprise? How do you feel about the coming of the Lord
into your life during these days? What will you do to prepare? How do the sounds of the season -
bells, music, children’s laughter, and excitement - help enhance your Advent experience?
Family Activity:
The Ringing of the Bells - Place a bell (or a cluster of sleigh bells) in a prominent place in your
home. Draw names after Sunday Mass each week, and pledge to do something nice for the family
member whose name you choose. Each time you do something nice for the person, ring the bells.
Listen to the sound of kindness filling your house!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you know where we are on our spiritual journey. We want to meet you in a
new way during these days, so that we may recognize your face in the people we might otherwise
overlook or avoid. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

ADORERS NEEDED!
Would you like get closer to
Jesus? We have great
opportunity every Tuesday to
stop in and spend some quiet
time with Him during
Eucharistic Adoration when the Blessed
Sacrament is exposed on the altar in a monstrance
A wonderful group of people have each
committed to being there for a particular hour
between 9 am and 7 pm so Jesus is never left
alone. Many others are able to come in for briefer
visits.
If you would like to participate in this important
ministry, please let us know. We need to have at
least two people committed to each hour; three
would be even better. We have a particular need
for 9 to 10 am and 1 to 2 pm because regular
adorers are moving away. Please contact Anne
Chavez at [email protected] or 610-793-
2154, or call the rectory to volunteer for a regular
hour or to be added to the sub list.
“The Church and the world have a great need of
Eucharistic worship. Jesus waits for us in this
Sacrament of Love. Let us be generous with our
time in going to meet Him in adoration and in
contemplation that is full of faith and ready to
make reparation for the great faults and crimes
of the world. May our adoration never
cease.”(Pope John Paul II, Dominicae Cenae,
February 1980)
