SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY AUGUST 12, 201217 th Sunday in Ordinary Time 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary

Welcome

Call to Worship: Psalm 92: 1-4, Page 548, O.T., NRSV

*Hymn: Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee #464

Prayer of Confession: Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change, open to us a future in which we can be changed and restore our joy in you. Grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

Silent Confession

Confessional Response: Kyrie Kyrie eleison; Christe eleison; Kyrie eleison. Translation: Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy; Lord have mercy.

Assurance of Pardon: 2 Corinthians 5: 17-19, Page 181, N.T., NRSV

*Congregational Response to God’s Grace: Gloria Patri #579 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

*Doxology and Prayer of Dedication Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below, Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles‘ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

Concerns and Prayers of Our Church Family

The Lord’s Prayer (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive us our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and power, and glory, forever.

*Hymn: When We All Get to Heaven

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace; In the mansions bright and blessed, He'll prepare for us a place.

Refrain: When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be!When we all see Jesus, We'll sing and shout the victory.

While we walk the pilgrim pathway, Clouds will overspread the sky;But when trav'ling days are over, Not a shadow, nor a sigh.

Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving ev'ry day;Just one glimpse of Him in glory Will the toils of life repay.

Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we'll behold;Soon the pearly gates will open; We shall tread the streets of gold.
