HOW TO BUILD THE TEAM• Only hire “A Players”

• “A Player” is defined as the top 10% of prospects/employee for a certain job at a certain budget• Cultural DNA

• Look for players that cross multiple stages• You need people that understand scalable processes, but can also operate in an entrepreneurial environment

• Drive company goals down to every employee• Set company goals• Have managers set their own goals and how they are measured • Have managers drive process to all subordinates

MAKE THE TOUGH DECISIONS• Do not reward for doing their job

• Do not confuse compensation for incentives•Must compensate fairly for the role and market

• Reward only the top performers• Remove the bottom performers• Employees only have four trajectories:

• Top performer• Rising• Taking up space• Falling

INTERVIEW FOR THE BEST• Understand the job and requirements• In the interview walk through their 90 day plan• Hire for “Will not Skill”• Invest in passive recruiting “building your

bench”• Meet and approve all finalized candidates• Hire people on their way up• Ask their reference for other references• Get involved
