Pressure is mounting. Innovative business systems are fast becoming the key to driving competitive advantage and top line growth. IT organizations are searching for ways to innovate, be more responsive to the business and at the same time contain costs while keeping the lights on. Business owners need the confidence to quickly deploy new business systems within budget and with none of the bad chemistry that so oen infects large projects. The old text-based model for business and IT to communicate on complex business system projects is no longer working. Many companies oen see the unpleasant results: cost over-runs, change orders, HR nightmares, project delays and business systems that are unusable. For many years there hasn’t been an alternative – until now.

With iRise, the business gets what it needs, stakeholders can iterate without disrupting developer productivity, and IT knows exactly what to build. Costs are cut. Productivity is boosted. Time is saved. Opportunities are realized.

Build the Right Software

Benefits at a Glance

▪ Drive business confidence

▪ Accelerate time to market

▪ Realize soware’s true potential

▪ Cut 70% of change orders

▪ Reduce risks associated with global development

▪ Deliver applications that users want to use

▪ Estimate projects more accurately

▪ Cut stakeholder review time

iRise is the world’s first tool used by business people to quickly assemble a working preview of business systems.

Business IT/Developers

iRise simulations let business people, end users and developers interact with critical business systems before development. The visual representation of the application looks and behaves like the real thing, including data interactions and business logic, so everyone literally gets on the same page. iRise simula-tions are interactive, unambiguous blueprints for what to build, eliminating expensive change orders, bringing projects to market on time and ensuring the final result will be adopted by end users. Business owners can now focus on the business, and IT organizations know exactly what to build – the first time.

iRise Studio™iRise Studio is a powerful, easy-to- use application definition tool used by business experts to quickly assemble functionally rich simulations of Web-based applications in a maer of hours. iRise Studio is used for new custom applications, portals, enhancements to existing systems and Web-based front-ends to packaged soware. Business people can quickly lay out the page flow of simulations and create high fidelity pages that precisely mimic not only the look and feel of the final application, but the business logic and data interactions as well. Business experts can even build simulations offline—further enhancing productivity.

Masters & Templates Template pages drive reusability and reinforce corporate branding directives. Business users can

set up templates and masters that perform common application functions like login, then use these as repeatable elements for new parts of the simulation or

on other projects. Updating masters will automatically update the copies of the template page that have been used elsewhere in the simulation.

Interactive Simulation The complete simulation–collaboratively built by IT and business people–provides stakeholders anywhere in the world with an opportunity to iterate on the design until it’s exactly what they need.

Whiteboard for Sketching Page Flow The whiteboard allows business experts to sketch out the high-level view of the application in seconds. The familiar drag and drop paradigm supports quick iterations without the overhead of technical design or drawing tools. Navigation between pages is easily assembled and includes pre-built decision objects that can be set up without coding.

Scenarios iRise speeds the approval process by including built-in support for scenarios, which are specific workflow paths through complex business systems. Scenarios speed the review process by giving stakeholders the ability to digest smaller, more manageable workflows through the application.

Easy Layout of User Interaction & Business LogicText, images and user interaction widgets are dragged and dropped onto pages and linked to simulated data objects called datasheets. A large number of pre-built interaction widgets are available such as drop-down lists, radio buons and entry fields. Prebuilt components allow the business analyst to create complex business logic that literally brings the simulation to life.

Sample DataBy adding realistic sample data via a spreadsheet-like interface, the business expert can communicate complex ideas and processes. Data can be easily imported from existing sources, driving meaningful review by stakeholders.

Stakeholder ReviewWhen was the last time a stakeholder review session was considered fun? Well, now they can be with application

simulations that encourage dialog, drive consensus and quickly iterate to specifications that act as visual blueprints for what to build. Business analysts publish simulations as interactive definition documents,

or iDocs, then present them to stakeholders for review. Rather than pages and pages of text and screen shots, stakeholders now have an interactive, functionally rich preview of how the final application will look and behave. They can test drive the simulation as if it were the real thing. Walkthrough notes help guide the review process and feedback comments can be sent to the business analyst with the click of a buon.

Return on InvestmentiRise application simulation offers incredible value, from initial proof of concept engagements, through project implementa-tions. Using iRise simulations, our customers are able to cut rework costs, replace expensive prototyping efforts, accelerate time to market and reduce risks associated with global develop-ment. Most iRise customers see a full Return On Investment (ROI) within 6 months. This ROI accelerates as more projects are simulated before development and visual simulations are used to make intelligent project funding decisions (“ideation”).

Rework & Time to MarketThe most obvious and immediate ROI of application simula-tion involves cuing rework costs. What is ‘rework?’ Almost all projects have some form of rework, whether it is called ‘change requests’, ‘contingencies’, ‘refactoring’ or simply ‘cost of doing business.’ The following success stories are typical:

Success Story 1:

A global brokerage firm used iRise to simulate a broker self-ser-vice portal prior to outsourced development in just 35 hours, eliminating 70% of expected rework and brought the project in 23% under budget.

“Application simulation removes the uncertainty from the devel-opment process and affords us additional leverage to create a more descriptive, enforceable and traceable project contract with the outsourcing developer.”

SVP, Global Brokerage

Success Story 2:

SunTrust Bank used iRise to simulate a new generation online banking site that merged systems from two companies. iRise simulations replaced spreadsheets and text documents, allowing IT to deliver a compelling system that reduced customer churn.

“In order to ensure customer retention and provide compelling products for new customers to join SunTrust we knew we needed to design and deliver the right applications the first time. With functionally rich iRise simulations, we now have a way to ensure that we are building the right applications for our customers. And the iRise simulations are so quick and easy to build, we can speed up the whole delivery process, which is critical to our strategic success.”

David NixSunTrust Bank

Success Story 3:

Aer a strategic acquisition, an insurance organization is under pressure to launch a consolidated set of Web applications that will retain customers and stave off the competition. The goal is to deliver the consolidated Web applications in 17 months, which includes documenting user requirements, design, coding, user acceptance testing, QA and delivery. The budget for the entire project is $5M. Rework is estimated at 30% of total costs, or $1.5M. Using iRise simulations to validate the business require-ments early in the process, the company is able to cut 70% of these rework costs, for actual savings of over $1M. Without iRise, late stage changes to the applications materially delay delivery by 3 months, costing millions in lost revenue. With iRise, there is no delay and the project is delivered on time.

Success Story 4:

Sentara, a regional healthcare provider, used iRise to simulate an internally facing employee portal, saving 50% of expected costs.

“Before adopting iRise, our highly skilled business analysts relied on tools like MS Word™, MS PowerPoint™ and static screen shots which are not suited to visualizing and validating business requirements for complex, industry-specific applications.”

Phil LanzafameProduct Manager

“Decisions like this [iRise] will help us reach a … goal of reducing our overall operating expense by $1 billion by 2006.”
