Addendums: 1. The Office Manager is immediately accountable to the Pastor as Head of Staff. Overall supervision resides with the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.2. The Office Manager and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee mutually agree to give a two week notice of termination of employment.3. The Office Manager will be evaluated at least annually as to job performance.4. As an employee of Cabot United Methodist Church, the Office Manager will abide by the stipulations of the church’s Safe Sanctuary policy. CLERGY CORNER

Clergy Health Insurance Rate: The CBOP approved the 2019 monthly health insurance rate to the local churches. The blended rate for full time clergy for 2019 will be $1536.00 a month. Included in this cost are medical, vision and dental. This represents a 1.7% or $25.00 a month increase for 2019. The 2019 member monthly cost share will remain the same at: $20.00 single / $35.00 two persons / $70.00 family.

Clergy Pre-Retirement Event: The biennial Clergy Pre-Retirement seminar will be held on October 24 and 25 at the Pittsburgh North Marriott (Cranberry Twp., PA). It will feature presentations from Wespath and EY advisors, as well as segments on Social Security, healthcare in retirement, financial planning and

more. Participants will be able to sign up for one-on-one personal pension projections with Wespath. A tentative schedule will be on the Conference website when registration opens August 15!

Volunteers in Mission Awareness Sunday on October 21. Western PA Conference established the 3rd weekend in October 2018, or another date chosen by the local church, for Volunteers in Mission Weekend and that a special offering be received in the local churches for the purpose of strengthening Volunteers in Mission engagement and participation. Local churches are urged to use this day in conjunction with Laity Sunday to celebrate those who use their God-given gifts to serve in short-term missions and the ways in which VIM mission teams are deepening our sense of mutuality between different parts of our global connection.

Camping Campaign Update

The Deeply Rooted, Upward Reaching campaign to support our camping and retreat ministries is moving into high gear.

Nearly all of the boards, teams and Cabinet members have donated or made a commitment to give. Pilot congregations

of all sizes have completed successful campaigns. Now its time for all local churches to join in. Expect a mailing this with

an invitation to send a leader to a training session. Register for a leader training session here. If you’d like a volunteer

visitor to attend a meeting of your church council to talk about the campaign, request someone here.

Facing the Climate Crisis: Pennsylvania Power and Light, an interfaith group responding to climate change, will hold its 2018 Conference on Saturday, October 27 in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt. Lebanon. The Voyagers are a gathering of clergy and church leaders exploring Bowen family systems theory and its application to congregations by Rabbi Edwin Friedman. We believe that the factual approach of Dr. Murray Bowen and the creative use of theory by Dr. Edwin Friedman provide a new understanding of human functioning for life, leadership, coaching, and ministry.

Wednesday, November 14, 2018 – Bowen Theory Introduction and Application. This one-day seminar will introduce participants to Bowen family systems theory and its application to working with families, congregations, and other institutions in the community. Family of origin work will be presented.

Thursday, November 15, 2018 – Conference with Dr. Michael Kerr. Theme – Bowen Theory’s Secrets: The Hidden Life of Families. Dr. Michael Kerr, the director of the Bowen Theory Academy and the former director of the Bowen Center in Washington, DC, will present a one-day conference focusing on the insights of his new book entitled, “Bowen Theory’s Secrets: The Hidden Life of Families.” Dr. Kerr will describe family functioning from a Bowen theory perspective and distinguish it from the traditional psychological approach that focuses on problems within the individual person. Dismantling Racism Seminar: Roxbury St. Paul’s UMC in Johnstown will host a seminar on Saturday, October 13 with Rev. Sylvia King, a local city council member and pastor; a Racism 101 presentation by Rev. Diane Glave, WPAUMC coordinator of Diversity Development; and an Implicit Bias training led by members of the WPAUMC Anti-Racism Team. Get flyer with details.

Getting Out the Vote: As a follow-up to the rally to end racism, The National Council of Churches offers a free webinar series to train church members to get out the vote in mid-term and local elections, where only 40 percent of voters go to the polls. Learn more

Next Steps in Eradicating Racism: The National Council of Churches will host its Christian Unity Gathering Monday – Wednesday, October 15-17 at the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Hyattsville. Christ UMC in Bethel Park will host Tolerance is Not Enough: An Interfaith Response to Hatred and Racism on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 2-4:30 p.m. Featured speaker will be Rabbi Abie Ingber, executive director of the Center for Interfaith Community Engagement at Xavier University in Cincinnati. Pittsburgh area faith leaders, including Pittsburgh DS Dawn Hand and Dr. John Welch of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, will be part of panel addressing regional challenges. Disaster Response Update: Both the North Carolina and South Carolina Conferences issued invitations over the past few days for Early Response Teams from the Northeastern Jurisdiction to assist in the cleanup from Hurricane Florence. Volunteers in Mission Awareness SundayOctober 21. Western PA Conference established the 3rd weekend in October 2018, or another date chosen by the local church, for Volunteers in Mission Weekend and that a special offering be received in the local churches for the purpose of strengthening Volunteers in Mission engagement and participation. Local churches are urged to use this day in conjunction with Laity Sunday to celebrate those who use their God-given gifts to serve in short-term missions and the ways in which VIM mission teams are deepening our sense of mutuality between different parts of our global connection.

UMCOR Grants: UMCOR’s board of directors approved an unprecedented amount in the form of grants during the annual spring board meeting. More than $46 million was awarded in support of disaster relief and recovery, global health projects, and sustainable development. Learn more.
