BTEC National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts What is BTEC Performing Arts? BTEC National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts is a practical course that will prepare you for work within the industry or higher education. You learn by completing assignments that are based on realistic work place situations. Your course will include a one day a week work placement where you be given a job role and a project to prepare you for employment. The placement will be tailored to your own interests; you may be working in a local theatre, arts agency, a school or a combination of all three. Why study BTEC Performing Arts? The Performing Arts working world will require you to be diverse with your skills. This course will give you a variety of different skills in all areas of the Performing Arts. You will be taught by experienced staff with excellent academic and professional qualifications in superb facilities. What makes a successful BTEC Performing Arts student? Do you enjoy performing, acting, singing and dancing? Do you have experience of performing in amateur groups or school shows? Do you have an interest in learning about the history of the Performing Arts and how the Performing Arts industry functions? Would you like practical hands-on experience that will give you the skills to go into employment or further study? If so, then this course if for you. To study this course, what qualifications will I need and in which subjects? Students will need at least four GCSEs or equivalent at Grades A*-C and have a background in at least one of the areas of Performing Arts. What is the structure of the course? What can I expect to study? You will take practical classes where you will develop and apply the skills in acting, singing and dancing. You will have the opportunity to participate in, and organise, regular performances throughout the course. To support this you will also investigate the historical context of performance. What opportunities are there for me to study beyond the classroom? The opportunity to learn a variety of styles and techniques throughout lessons and workshops with invited guests. You will be involved with organising and performing in the school Musical and there will be an exciting work placement in a Performing Arts venue. What kind of career does this subject/qualification prepare me for? You could go on to study at higher education either at university or at a specialist college such as Arts Educational, Mountview or LIPA. You may also go into the holiday industry as an entertainer, work within community arts or within a theatre or agency.
