GCSE Combined Science or Triple Science at 2 x grade 5s.
Introduction to the course
Students will study a range of units on the BTEC programme covering all of the core sciences.
Throughout the course students will have the opportunity to complete practical investigations and
experiments, as well as develop their research and independent study skills. This course is suitable for
students who have an interest in the applications of Science or are taking complementary A Levels.
This course is equivalent to one A Level. BTEC Applied Science is an exciting practical based course
that equips students with a range of scientific. If you are good at problem solving and carrying out
practical work, this course will suit you. If you find that you do better in coursework than exams, you
should enjoy the BTEC Applied Science course as it comprises of 50% assessment via exams but
there is also a 50% coursework component as well.
Learning and teaching styles
The subject is mostly practical with written work to support the practical aspects of the course. Students
need to demonstrate strong practical, analytical and evaluation skills in this subject. Students will attend
trips to local medical and industrial labs to assist them in understanding how what they are taught in
the classroom is applied in industry.
