CMS 11 BSS Call Flows Call Flow Diagrams

Call Flow DiagramsThe figures on the following pages show the CMS 11 BSS call flows and performance attributes for the following call scenarios:

n Mobile Originated Call Setup

n Mobile Terminated Call Setup

n Mobile Initiated Call Release

n MSC Initiated Call Release

n BSC Initiated Call Release

n Location Registration

n SMS Delivery Via the Traffic Channel

n SMS Delivery Via the Paging Channel

n Intra-BSC Soft Handoff

n Selector Element Transfer

n Inter-MSC/Inter-BSS Hard Handoff (Drop)

n Inter-MSC/Inter-BSS Hard Handoff (Add)

n Inter-MSC/Intra-BSS Hard Handoff

Performance attributes are shown in bold on the call flow diagram, and each is associated with a circle on the diagram that indicates where the attribute is pegged. Attributes that are not linked to a specific external message on the diagram are collected internally within the BSC at the position indicated.

n If the circle is at the start of the arrow, the attribute is pegged when the message is sent.

n If the circle is over the arrowhead, the attribute is pegged when the message is received.

n If the circle is not with an arrow, but touches the vertical line, the attribute is pegged at that point in time.
