Objectives of the Session
(lecture hour: 90 Minutes approx.)
At the end of the program the participant will be able to:-
1. Design a session plan using ADDIE model with anobjective to realize active learning by the students
2. Learn ADDIE Model:an holistic approach for planning the
course delivery methodology (tools, techniques, resources
materials etc.), its implementation and continuous
improvement based on retrospective evaluation of course
delivery.(Session planning is a part of it!)

Importance of Session plan
In order to accomplish the objectives of well planned
curriculum, we need to implement it properly.
Implementation means to ensure occurrence of student
learningin and only in classroom.
Hence teacher role is not limited to teaching only.
He has to verify the student learning in the same teaching
session (lecture hour). Secondly since retention of things learnt in a classroom is
maximum when they will see, listenanddo(90%),
Hence we should try for planning and realizing the studentparticipation in class room.
For the purpose, a faculty need to be prepared with the session
Plan (i.e. Plan of each lecture hour).

ADDIE MODEL(an holistic approach for the design of course delivery methodology)
When designing, developing, preparing and delivering
teaching-learning hours, it is important to follow ADDIEmodel as a best practice.
ADDIE is a part of ISD (Instructional System Design)
family. It was created by center for education technology at
Florida State University, US for the US armed forces.

1. Identify topic and depth of content for a given teaching
session (lecture hour).
2. Clearly define the learning objectives of a session.3. Identify students and their characteristics.
4. Assess the students existing skills and knowledge (Verify
beforehand, WHEN??). (Answer:Probably in the first one or
two lectures at the beginning of a course, Discuss).
5. Identify delivery methodology, teaching tools/ techniques viz.
active learning, participative and/ or collaborative tasks etc.
6. Identify what teaching materials to be developed/ used.
7. Review/ retrospect with regard to justification of the tools,
techniques selected and alternatives available.

1. Create Session plan.
2. Create outline of teaching manual.3. Create outline for conduction of teaching.
4. Create the prototype delivery style (e.g. pre-recorded video
of learning hour)5. Create opening and summary.
6. Create evaluation strategy (Test, quizzes, group discussion or
presentations or what else suits the topic, in order to verify
the accomplishment of student learning objectives).

1. Procedure for teaching the students is developed and
delivered.2. Procedure for teaching the facilitators is developed and
delivered.
3. Installation of teaching module (includes file upload, issue of
copies of worksheets etc.)
4. Going live (actual delivery in the assigned lecture hour).

1. Last but not the least, rather a very important phase i.e.
Retrospection/ Review) of the entire course delivery alongwith your team of course instructors,
2. in order to improve the course delivery methodology and
3. in turn to enhance the prospects of better accomplishment of
learning objectives, in the subsequent semesters.

: What we have learnt in this lecture??
1. What are the elements of a good session plan?
2. How to prepare session Plan (ADDIE model : a guide)
Home assignment (for further retention and transfer): In order to assimilate/ absorb the learning and bring it into
your regular practice,
It is suggested to carry out the same exercise for 2-3 more
topics and then
discuss it with your friends and
verify that whether u have been able to
avoid mistakes committed in this session,
incorporate the guidelines given in this session,
and feedback from the peers and the session facilitator.

Feedback about the session(Please maintain anonymity, while giving feedback.
However you are expected to provided meaningful, coherent feedback.)
Please write your comments on these aspects regarding thesession:
1. Whether the motivation (Objectives) for the session was clearor not? (Yes/No)
2. Whether the content supplied was sufficient for enabling theparticipant to be able to answer/ participate successfully in
the activities set by the facilitator?3. Whether the facilitator followed the events of instruction/
violated? If yes, which are the events, Please justify.
4. Do you feel you are benefitted by the session? (Yes/ No)
5. Are you ready to implement and practice it? (Yes/ No)6. If No, what problems, challenges/ limitations do you foresee?
Please comment.

CDIO BASED PROGRAM DESIGN
(www.cdio.org/) A CDIO program is based on the principle that product,
process, and system lifecycle development and deployment are
the appropriate context for engineering education.
Conceiving--Designing--Implementing--Operating is a model
of the entire product, process, and system lifecycle.
The Conceive stage includes defining customer needs;considering technology, enterprise strategy, and regulations;
and, developing conceptual, technical, and business plans.

The Design stage focuses on creating the design, that is, the
plans, drawings, and algorithms that describe what will beimplemented.
The Implement stage refers to the transformation of the design
into the product, process, or system, including manufacturing,
coding, testing and validation.
Operate, uses the implemented product or process to deliver
the intended value, including maintaining, evolving and
retiring the system.
